I'm in the same boat which is why I asked. It's just that I'm caught in this feeling that gifts shouldn't be asked for (no offense meant to anyone) so when people ask I always say "nothing." I would much rather get nothing than something given for the sake of "it's the holidays I have to." I guess I was just wondering out loud if people had really interested/astute family and friends. Am I a dick?

Well. ILFSS is pretty much the only gift I get that I don't clearly point to. But it's also because I very much dislike having things around that I don't need: clutter is a pain in the ass. So I'd rather doctor the gift giving a bit as I pretty much only get gifts wether for the solstice or for my birthday from my mother. The rest is an occasional grandma check or book, which I'm a lot less peculiar about than music gear or cycling/sports stuff or tech stuff (you're probably as much of a nerd as I am so you get it) or even clothing (sizing and style). So I guess it works

Wishlists can fail too. That is first hand experience.
