Thanks for not being snobs

Post by aens_wife »

Jesus. Just went to look something up on TalkBass and ended up reading two pages on why thumb rests are terrible for your technique and why they will ruin your bass entirely by wearing out the frets faster.

I had forgotten what the rest of the world was like. Now I remember that I don't really like it.

Thanks for not being snobby douches, everyone!

In other news TB has some crazy new drugs that allow you to think out of your sphincter, results are most random and rather fascinating to scientists...

The worst part was that when people called his BS, he dug in his heels and swore that a thumb rest makes you play harder, which will wear out the frets.

So the lesson is: All of you who play differently than this douche on TB are wrong and are breaking your instruments.

but but but but I learn on a bass with a thumb rest… do you have any idea how many basses I own? I'm going to have to refret all of them? what about my fretless basses will I have to have them fretted and then have them defretted? this is too much stress to deal with

What's the best Souzaphone technique for doom?

it has to be a fiberglass one since the idea behind playing soft is so you don't ever use dynamics and with an all metal horn you risk using dynamics and it might have a thumb rest somewhere

I removed the thumbrest because I didn't like how its extra mass affected the overtones I was getting in the 11kHz range. Really opened up the bass for me. Hope this helps.
Does anyone know where I can buy replacement plastic covers for pickguards? Mine is starting to fray (even though I don't use a pick LOL) and I would like to address that before it becomes a problem. God bless.

Yes, but what about the fingers rests located under the strings (competition mustang style) ? I bet these make your frets stronger or something. Because physics.

Also, apparently, just merely talking about thumb rests lowers your IQ.

Oh, TalkButt... every now and then I'll go over to peek in the effects section. And every time, I have the exact same reaction: nope.

Although, I will say that the one time I went to a TB get together, everyone was really nice. I mean, the ILF GtG TOTALLY SMOKED IT BY A BILLIONDY, but still...

We need to up our snobby douche game, all. We've got to expand it beyond records no one actually cares about and the various pressings therein.

I lurk there once and a while, mostly in the effects forum, I think I have an account too there but I wouldn't use b/c aens_wife's sorrow is a day-to-day thing there. I should sign on to talk about how much I love fret clank when I pluck hard and how I want to lower my action to barely touching the frets for the clank.

And this is the best. No injokes, no hyper-opinionated users, no snobs, just doom and fuzz and Behndy's tentacles

Yes, I only purchase pedals made by satanic one man manufacturers, they must infuse the circuits with their own blood, it's the secret to my toans. :doom:
