Haha -- sorry! The second I got back to the states I got rolled into a surprise project interview and the rest of the week was just as crazy.retinal orbita wrote:Soooooo where did you go?!?!?!
FIRST: thanks so much for the cool suggestions!
We went up Sunday and stopped in Mississaugua to buy a synth from a guy I found on Kijiji. He and his wife ended up being super cool (and have also come to my neck of the woods a couple times a year -- small world!) so we stayed for a couple hours and talked about gear/music/art/photography and then they asked us to stay for homemade polish chicken soup. Random, but awesome!
We were staying at the Royal Oak hotel on Dundas East. It's a "boutique hotel" which apparently means "nice finishes poorly installed." It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't that great either. Walked around the corner on Parliament and found the 420Smokehouse which had good beers, amazing smoked brisket sandwiches, and a really cute and friendly German waitress. I got drunk.
Next day we walked around Chinatown and Kensington market, including Paul's Boutique which was awesome. Then Eaton Center. I KNOW you advised against it, but I design large-scale food service operations for a living and their "urban eatery" is amazing so I had to check it out. Definitely one of the best operations of its kind that I have ever seen, crowds of idiots or not. Went back to the hotel to lounge for a bit, then went to Sabai Sabai (Dundas and Chirch) for Thai food. AMAZING! Food was stellar, great service, and the host (owner?) told us all about his favorite spots on the city and gave us free prosecco. I got drunk.
Last day we walked around St Laurence market (cool, and omg: peameal bacon!) and the Distillery district (lame and opportunistic) then rested up a bit. Went back to the 420smokehouse for a quick bite and beers, then went to see Alt-J at the KooHaus. Show was great, venue was weird, bouncers/staff were dicks. I went back to the hotel and got drunk.
Yay vacation!
