Im totally off to read that now.
Automated Souzaphone for the win. Couple that up with some robotic alpine horns.
Crushing lows, endless sustain.
Robots don't need thumb rests, either.

Re: Thanks for not being snobs
I used to love to rile people up over there, talking about how I was a pick-only player, and dynamics are bullshit because I just hit the strings as hard as I can on every note. That used to get some funny responses. It was like I admitted to boiling kittens.WayToHip wrote:I lurk there once and a while, mostly in the effects forum, I think I have an account too there but I wouldn't use b/c aens_wife's sorrow is a day-to-day thing there. I should sign on to talk about how much I love fret clank when I pluck hard and how I want to lower my action to barely touching the frets for the clank.
And this is the best. No injokes, no hyper-opinionated users, no snobs, just doom and fuzz and Behndy's tentacles

I thought tumbrest were really popular on talkbass, isn't that what those big chucks of wood they put between their pickups are? or is that some sort of training wheel?

Re: Thanks for not being snobs
What you speak of is a finger ramp. They're supposed to improve plucking technique by making you pluck across rather than down the string. Not unlike training wheels. I've never tried one but I would like to.well... it's green wrote:I thought tumbrest were really popular on talkbass, isn't that what those big chucks of wood they put between their pickups are? or is that some sort of training wheel?

Re: Thanks for not being snobs
Ramps are also used to keep you from digging in too much. A lot of bassist have heavy fingers when playing, a ramp forces you to play light. You can even get ramps made for above your pickups in case you play near the neck.
It would make a good thumb rest though.

For real though the floating thumb technique did improve my playing. Now I can't leave my thumb on the neck or pickup the entire time.

Man, people always so about using one technique 100% of the time, I don't understand it. Why not use what's good for the song/comfort? I love the attack of a pick in some bass passages, so I use a pick sometimes.
