^^^^ yeah I'm really excited to share music with our son when he is here. Even if he doesn't end up wanting to play it, just that he appreciates music and stuff

I find it hilarious to imagine some ILFer's kid ends up totally into top-forty pop:

"No dad, I don't want to play in alternate tunings, its just all...NOISE"
"*Gasp* don't you DARE say that in this household!"
"That's fine, because I wont be here. I'm going to run away and join, a BOY BAND!"

hahahahaha

I'm totally okay if he doesn't even like music, as long as he's doing something productive

Parenting is easily the hardest thing I've ever done. No one thing about it is overly hard, but it's a very demanding and heavy thing to do. My daughter is the best thing that ever happened in the history of things. She will be 1 next week and I just now feel like I'm able to come up for air.

OP - your kiddo needs you now, you are a distant second to his needs for a bit longer. Once the dust of infancy/toddler-hood settles, you will be able to give yourself more time.

Ilovefuzz is a tremendously awesome place - you can always come here and vent/lament/seek advice :thumb:

When we first had our kid 2 years ago, I assumed my musical and social life was over. Well, the social life took a hit, but the musical life is better now than before the kid! I get 30-45 minutes on a normal day to practice, and 30-45 more at night if I move my amp to the other side of the house while he's asleep. There are even times that I have put him to sleep with my bass playing. I've written stuff to use just as lullabies and they totally work! Anyways, I also try to play with other people one day a week, but sometimes that doesn't work out.

One thing is not having as much money for gear, but if you save and budget right, you can still get a new toy every couple months.

And another plus is that you get a pretty fat tax return with a kid, so there's that.

I feel you OP. For real.

I had my first kid when I was 18. Obviously I was no where near ready to parent, and I had a lot of other things going on that made my life hard. But just know that it gets better. My son is 3 now and he's fucking awesome and I'm in a much better place and having a much easier time with things. It's cheesy as fuck but it does get better. And you can be creative in that environment.
