Its not like the japanese destroyed most of the usa's civilian centres.
Yeah it's not like they dropped a couple of nukes on us of anything….

That tweet looks like something the graphic artist whipped up 3 minutes before deadline.

And in response to "Are Americans Way Too Uptight?" the answer is a resounding "yes."

When you walk up to some big guy and punch him in the nuts you don't get to dictate his response.

On August 6, 1945 the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the 2nd one (on Nagasaki) was dropped 3 days later. The will of the empire of Japan wasn't broken until the 2nd bomb was dropped, when the Japanese feared they could be literally wiped from the face of the earth, but until that 2nd bomb they were willing to fight to the last man, woman and child. It took 6 days after the 2nd bomb for Japan to surrender.

I'm only glad that the decision whether to bomb or send American lives to face the Japanese in their homeland, who were not known for humane treatment of their prisoners, wasn't up to me.

We could have easily broken the Japanese will by bombing military targets. We deliberately chose to bomb a large population center full of civilians. And we did the same thing in Dresden, albeit with non-nuclear weapons in that case. I'm not defending Japan at all, they preemptively attacked the US and deserved a very severe beatdown. But let's not sugarcoat shit here, we specifically went after civilians, and the Japanese specifically didn't.

War shouldn't be treated as a sport, with everyone playing fair and following the rules. If it's not a desperate fight for survival, then there really shouldn't be a war in the first place. Real wars are fought by countries, not militaries. So yeah, killing lots of Japanese was the unthinkably evil way to end the war, because war is awful.

I agree with you to a point. There are more-evil and less-evil ways of waging war, though.

Well, the OP was about Americans being uptight because of holiday celebrating a war.

No it was about the fact that a company can't use their logo to say they care about America without people freakin out and yelling about Corporations being evil... It just seems Americans aren't happy unless they are upset...
