Is there a way you can deaden the sound? Tell your drummer to put a pillow in his kick drum. I'm assuming that's what's the most annoying to her. Drums be loud. Either that or tell her to eat a dick. Your dick in fact.

i actually deal with this stuff (residential complaints) and am a noise officer.
rules are prob different in your neck of the woods/world, but as a rule of thumb any noise readings are taken from the receiving property...not the source.
any noise cleaerly audible beyond the property boundary may exceed the allowable levels...and the allowable levels may get lower dependant on time of day. diffrent characteristics of noise that may attract penalties the actual noise reading taken...and also
musical instruments may be classed differnt to other equipment where it does not require a human operator to make noise etc
check your local regs etc

that's the annoying part about the yarea we're in. all i can find is very general descriptions of ordinances.

i didn't have time to stop at a GC to grab a professional decible meter, but i used an version on my phone and it said 70 db at where the sidewalk starts. i had a fuzzed line looping while my drummer played whilst checking.

we got about 40 seconds into the first song we were working on and this woman came over and started banging on the garage door. before i could get a hello out she was basically yelling at me about how NO NO NO IT IS TOO LOUD THIS MAY BE FUN FOR YOU BUT blah blah. i told her to let me talk or just go away, explained we were being as quiet as we could and it's not illegal, she tried to talk over me and then stomped away yelling back something about YOU CAN NOT MAKE SUCH NOISES IN YOUR GARAGE.

sooooooo.... she kinda seems like she has zero interest in discussing it, it was 6.30 pm, i checked and it's quieter from the street than if someone was playing a car radio in my friend's driveway.... my friends weren't home so we did today quiet enough that i could hear the fretting noise on my bass and my drummer was baby handing everything. which fucking sucked.

but hung out with my friends tonight, we talked about it, they're kinda where i'd be if it was my house. fuck that lady. if she calls the cops and they show up and tell us it's too loud, we'll go from there. but until then they're fine with us being that loud and not concerned about the woman being a freak.

guh. drama. we might start looking for another rehearsal spot soon. don't want to be the cause of problems for some friends that are trying to be all peachy and helpful.

BLEGH.

oof yeah 60dB is quiet for music... that's similar to the ambient noise when riding the subway for chissakes.

lol. yeah. just running a decibel meter on my phone (i know it's not totally accurate, there's no WAY the little mic on there picks up low end stuff) i can't get it to ever really go below 50 or 55.

i'm not that worried about authorities. California is weird where they pass a LOT of asinine laws, and try to pass even more (there was a push to outlaw darker colored cars here once. i forget why. something about darker cars needing more fuel or some other dipshit pseudo-enviomentalist reasong.), but so much is never enforced. TECHNICALLY it's illegal to smoke weed in Oakland, but cops aren't s'posed to do anything about anybody below a certain weight.

ugh. silliness.

RYAN. EVEN IF I COULD SLEEP AROUND ON MY WIFE I DON'T KNOW IF I'D WANT TO TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM. THIS IS NOT AN ATTRACTIVE LAYDAY.

my drummer's younger. he hasn't lived as much as i have. he hasn't had to do naked dances with the landlord's cat while they jerked one out or had "escort" a fried that's "delivering a package" to cover rent.

LET HIM GET SOME MORE LIFE EXPERIENCES UNDER HIS BELT.

^check my location lol... U got nothing to worry bout...I love fuzz.!
Dealing with environmental noise is one part of my job as a "public health officer/inspector"in australia. Noise from band pracs are the least of my troubles... Its high density living/air con noise, development issues etc i mainly deal with.

I do get to approve and inspect big music festivals and venues too so yeah... Has its perks
