not being too noisy for neighbors

Post by behndy »

boop.

just moved from a rehearsal spot to a friend's garage in a suburban yarea. all the neighbors are fine with us being there, checked with them before we started and then after the first day making loud noises.

except for one. apparently she's always been nice, so maybe she had a deadline or a bad day or some such, but yesterday got really pissy at my friend's bf (he's also a bud, it's her house though), we turned down some, he went to check to see if that helped, before he got a word out she started screaming how NO NO TOO LOUD.... we're going to ask her if there's days she needs no noise and try to work around that, we're just planning on two days a week, 2 to 3 hours at most each day. and don't plan on going later than 8 or 8.30 pm.

this was at 7 pm, and we're in a yarea that's had so much budget cuts to their police staff that you can only call 911 for like 4 things, everything else they tell you to file a police report online. i'm not really worried (and i talked to my friend to make sure she feels the same way and she does) about any cop trouble, but i can't find anything online for the yarea's db rating for residential zones.

i know in most parts of CA motorcycles are not allowed to exceed 92 db whilst idleing, i THINKG the last time i had to talk to a cop about this kind of thing it was 90db they said we should stay under. going to grab a decibel meter on the way to practice today, we ARE going to practice at normal volumes 'cause we have a show Saturday and Sunday, and i'm fucking sloppy right now.

(tl;dr-) anybody know what the db rating is in residential yareas?

Are you near San Diego? There's this: http://docs.sandiego.gov/municode/MuniC ... sion04.pdf

Just search for your county's municipal code and search for noise or something within that.

i tried that, they didn't have a table like that in theirs though. it just gave a general wording, something like "can not exceed a reasonable amount of noise".

we're not THAT loud i don't think. i'll check with that decibel meter today at the end of the property, but that's a good table to have. i'll try a search for Vallejo again.

thanks CarrrrrrL.

Soni - yah. places i've talked to cops where residential yareas of Richmond and El Cerrito. i'm pretty sure we're good i'm just trying to cover shtuff you know? i don't want to be a dick to someone. but.... lol. we ran through the 2 songs that are way new at about loud speaking volume yesterday. SUCKED.

Oh snap it's actually 60... This don't seem right by it's the Yay... :yay:

Section 17.120.050 of the Oakland Planning Code stipulates
that the noise level between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. at the
property line of any legal residential acti
vity, school, child care, health care or
nursing home, public open space, and simila
rly sensitive
land use must not exceed 60 dBA more than 20 minutes in any hour, 65 dBA more than 10 minutes in any hour, 70 dBA more than
5 minutes in any hour, 75 dBA more than 1 minute in any hour, and 80 dBA for any period of time. These limits are reduced by 15
dBA
between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. These standards result in a convert
ed Leq noise limit equivalent of
68 dBA between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m
. and
53 dBA between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m

interesting. yeah. 60 should be fine from an enclosed garage. i don't really want to do the work and i don't think my friend wants noise baffling all over her garage, so i hope we're not over that.

You think the Doors gave a fuck what their neighbors thought when they were jamming in that bungalow on Venice Beach?

You think Lil' Petey Townshend cared about what that fat geezer and his fat wife thought about him as a teenager practicing his windmills?

Fuck that bitch.

Yes I know for a fact that Petey T paid some guy in zappers and goof balls to stand outside with a dB meter to make sure they were well within the local accepted range for normal environmental noise levels...

lol. if it was my house? fuck 'em. but i'm not trying to cause drama at a bud's spot. it's ridiculously nice of her to offer up her garage yarea (derrrrrrrrrrty) like this in the first place.

I DON'T KNOW WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

tell her you're creeped out by her stalking and that if she keeps threatening you, that you will file a restraining order. fight cray with cray.

show up at night, lean into her sleeping face, hum some riff from one of our songs. when she wakes up scream in her face, "WHY DON'T YOU LOVE ME LIKE I LOVE YOU??!?" then run off stealing a pair of her panties.

DONE.
