New Pickups for Mah JagYouwar

Post by Astricii »

Ordered a set of these bad boys this week. Gonna throw em in my 92 MIJ Oly jag white covers on black pickguard.

They're Jazzmaster style pickups that don't require routing the body of a jag.

between that and adding the staytrem it's gonna be sick as balls. What I think the Jagmaster should have been. Jag body and neck, jazz pickups.

Curtis doesn't advertise from what I can tell but if you've a little more space from string to body (13mm) he can fit his JM-90 design (what I'm getting) or JM-180 into the bridge pup. The 90 is a hybrid Jazzmaster/P90 sound, the 180 is two 90s stacked basically.

The really cool thing (or not depending on the person) about the 180 is in lead setting on a Jaguar/Jazzmaster it's the normal JM 90 the Rhythm circuit gets replaced with the 180 by basically turning on the second bridge pickup for a nice hot signal if you want it.

I'm super stoked to get these and put them in. My white jag's always been kinda Meh from having the cheapo Japanese neck pickup and a shitty seymour duncan bucker of of some type in the bridge. I'm hoping this will become my main guit after this transformation.

How is a hummer in the bridge for a jaguar? I'm dissapointed by how weak the stock pickup is and I want more output basically.

The JB I personally found was AWEFUL. It's ALL Midrange and no output. I was very disappointed; I had a full sized JB in my old ibanez and it was amazing.

What model are you playing AVRI CIJ MIJ MIM?

I find the Output of my Classic Player Closely matches the output of these custom Novaks I have in my MIJ jag now.
The Novak pups have a lot more definition though it's like running a jag with a clean booster Vs the CP pickups which are hotter in the mids which is good for lead work and such so I like the variety for that.

If you have the Cash and the will to act I'd recommend trying one of these JMX-90s first. mainly because you don't have to route the body of your jaguar to later find out you don't like it and have an unusable/unsellable guitar.
The pickups run about 125 each. and a custom pickguard from Pickguardian (the only guy who has a template for the custom size of these Novaks) will run you about 40bucks for a 3ply guard. it's a drop in replacement outside of that.

Failing that I'd try to find a set of Classic Player single coils. it's a good Jag sound with more bite and mids so it's not so jangly but yet still very very bright.

Here you can see how tall the JMX-90 is. this is part of the reason for the output it's really close to the strings.

No output? Shit, that's what I need.
I have a CIJ, which means I have two strat pups :idk: ?
I want jangle in the bridge and the neck is played on the rhythm circuit for those jazzy cleans (and muffed riffs).
I should try a CP, there's one at the L&M in town.
