Now, since I refuse to believe there's some genetic reason for this, I think it's safe to say attitudes toward race, or at the very least previous attitudes toward race, play a substantial role in poverty.

On principle, I don't think that over-arching statistics are a good indication of individual attitudes/prejudices. Like unownunown said, classism and racism are highly correlated, but there is no direct this-for-that relationship of causation between them. You can't show people statistics and say, "SEE this is why you shouldn't be racist!!!" It's just going to get people who are already on your side more riled up and self-righteous without doing anything productive towards solving the problem.

Personally, I'd say that being white doesn't give you an advantage (stay with me on this one). Not being white gives you a disadvantage. Just a different way to conceptualize what many of you are saying.

I'm not going to say we should be able to use certain words in certain contexts, an outright ban on a word is the fairest form of censorship, but I will still promote the use of ironic humor to belittle bigoted perspectives (within the rules established by the mods). Just because someone says something doesn't mean they believe it or are promoting it. You can't denounce ideas if you're too afraid to even bring them up.

A quick search pulls up 49 instances.

I don't actively run through the ILF database on a daily basis looking for them, but I will address them as I see them and/or if they are reported.

Whether or not it's been actively moderated in the past,...the mods are asking that we refrain from using the word and I don't think it's too much to ask that we respect those wishes.

This forum is growing and there are going to be more and more people that will be participating in these threads and that is going to lead to more sensitivity to controversial words. I wish people wouldn't be so quick to be offended,...because all it really does is reinforce division and fear,...but unfortunately that's not the case. I'm all about loose moderation, keeping it light around these parts not to mention satirizing stereotypes,...but Is there really any reason why we need to be dropping N bombs in any context?

Fuck sake,...this is the only forum where I can come in here and cuss up a storm without fear of the ban hammer and that's one of the reason this place is awesome. With that comes the responsibility to police ourselves and I don't think it's unreasonable for moderation to expect us to be respectful of one another on a cultural level.

Good luck getting attention if you are a guy in a group that has a female frontwoman, period, no matter what you do. I'm not being sexist here, that is the fucking truth. Every single band on earth that is fronted by a woman, 99% of the audience wouldn't be able to pick anyone else in that band out of a fucking lineup or tell you any of their names. Audiences see a female singer and immediately block anyone else on stage out of their minds and eyes.

I know, you're speaking more about real bands, whereas Justin Beiber is a pop bullshit pretty boy, so this analogy doesn't exactly work. But still, it depends on the dynamics of the band. Try getting a really ugly female frontwoman, and playing some really kickass guitar licks. Or paint boobs on your guitar, instead of a kaoss pad; you'd have much fewer electrical problems with boobs.

Inclined to agree with HoyBoy( aww how kewt!) I mean if the Big N is like, the only thing you're not allowed to say( even if it's the more accepted "A" ending) then I don't see the big deal.

Don't get me wrong,....I'm all for satirizing stereotypes for humor and I like the function that it serves of tearing down barriers. I'm all for realizing that sensitivity to cultural differences only reinforces fear and division (which is what the establishment wants),...but not everyone shares that mindset or has made that breakthrough. You can satirize stereotypes without becoming overly offensive and that's when the humor works.

I wish people weren't so quick to get offended but that just isn't the reality. Again,...getting offended really just reinforces the fear and division that is being used to hold the majority of us back.

The fact of the matter is that in the past there has been a systematic policy of holding black people back in this country (see American Slavery,,...see Jim Crow Laws). The result of that treading on human rights and denial of dignity is that the N bomb is especially offensive to black people when it comes out of a white person's mouth, in any context. Blacks have had to fight hard and have bled to combat segregation and inequality so I can completely understand defensiveness when white people drop the N bomb.

Besides,...using that word makes ANYONE seem silly and ignorant. To clarify, I'm not trying to single SR out here,...I'm saying ANYONE,...white or black who uses that word; whether it be for humorous purposes or for the purposes to defame, doesn't paint a particularly sophisticated picture of themselves.
