I think I need a smart phone now too.

Don't trust those tuner-apps! I had to play a song for a recordingsession and the guitarist that first recorded tracks recorded it with his "this is the best tuner-ever-app on my very cool Iphone" So the next day I came to the producer that recorded the song, we did a quick play through and damn, that tuner was off compared to every tuner I used.. (it was that good
) Of course neither the producer nor I had an Iphone, so it was a hell of a tuning-adventure..- snipelfritz

That's why I'm questioning "4G" v. "4G speeds" two totally different things. I don't even live in an area with 4G network, but I want capabiity if it ever really comes along. If the iPhone doesn't have that, then iFuck you.

iPhone, hands down. Mine makes itself useful every single day.
Oh. And the demos for the Lucky 13 on www.noisemakereffects.com were recorded with my 4S. How's that for enough reason to buy one?

4G is 7 to 10 times faster than 3G, in the case of Sprint's network: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9201098/3G_vs._4G_Real_world_speed_tests
If you're happy with 3G, cool, but it's not "hype" or "buzz words" - it's roughly the same as the difference between dial-up and broadband internet.
http://gizmodo.com/5680755/the-dirty-se ... its-not-4g
I dont think its fair to compare it as dial up vs broadband. its a difference of a few mbps. the POTENTIAL is up to 100-300mbps, will you ever see that? not anytime soon. and it always varies depending on how many towers are in your area, how many people are on that tower and bandwidth available, how much the company allows for network stability, blah blah blah. honestly, it all costs the same, its all just a "data plan" added to your phone bill regardless of 3g or 4g.
for me personally, 3g iPhone>4g whatever. I dont care if my youtube videos or browser load a few seconds faster. and its not like im downloading movies or playing online games on my phone.

To each his own and this:
...is totally a big deal to me. 4G potential and free apps trump anything else in my book, so EVO it is! I don't plan on getting another new phone for a while, so buying one that's already outdated(although not functionally) seems pointless.

I'm definitely aware of that(my dad actually worked for Sprint until very recently), but I'm more concerned about the potential of the device when the networks certainly will improve. ya dig?
That's why I was asking before about 4G capability compared to 4G speeds and whatnot

Re: What phone should I get?
I currently have an HTC Thunderbolt, pretty much Verizon's version of the original EVO with a few slight spec bumps. I guess I can't tell you specifically about Sprint but Verizon 4G LTE is extremely fast and I'm sure within a year or so the major carriers will be at about the same level.
4G is a huge battery hog though, unless I'm super careful with power management my phone is dead in 5 hours if I'm actively sending and receiving data over 4G.
If the iPhone didn't have such a small screen (Now that I have the Thunderbolt, I never want a phone with a screen that measures less than 4 inches) I'd probably buy it just because it's frustrating waiting for your carrier/manufacturer to provide timely software updates for Android and the app selection is a bit better but not really by much.
That said, god damn do I want a Galaxy Nexus, if that ever comes to Sprint and you still haven't picked out a phone, that's my suggestion

There are a lot of free apps for iPhone. And a ton that are 99 cents. Even a cheap bastard like me occasionally springs for a 99-cent app.
I'm sure other phones have it, but I've got the guitar interface cable that I use with iShred Live. That's a bomb-ass app.
But hey, if you are all about maybe having 4G on your phone one day, get the Evo. I've heard it's a rad phone.

Good thing you have a phone that allows you to swap out batteries on the fly...as opposed to every iPhone ever.
I sprung for an extra OEM Samsung battery on amazon, it came with a battery cradle (so the battery can charge while not in the phone) and a AC to mini-USB adapter for less than $30 total. Soooo worth it.

Yeah I was looking into one of those a while ago and if I don't end up switching to the Galaxy Nexus I'm definitely buying one.
Thanks for the reminder
Also before you go all for the EVO 4g, look to the Nexus S.
It has unskinned Android and will actually get the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade unlike the EVO which I doubt will get anymore OS upgrades.
It has a slightly smaller screen but I think 4" is still solid. You can't go wrong with an official Google phone

I've owned a Moto Droid and now an iPhone 4s...
I think you made the right choice. The iphone is an impressive device, but really wish I had stuck with Android, if anything just for the native navigation that is actually useful.
When you buy an iPhone factor in the apps you'll need to buy just to make it as functional as android is out of the box
