50 years of fuzz!

Post by jrmy »

Just found this link on Facebook, to an article in The Atlantic:

http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/a ... oll/71959/

"Fifty years ago, a faulty connection in a mixing board gave birth to fuzz, which is a term of art. Although it came to define the sound of rock guitar, fuzz appeared first in neither guitar nor rock, but in the bass solo of country singer Marty Robbins on "Don't Worry." The band and producers debated whether to keep the weird sound or record another take. It stayed, and the song entered the Top 40 in February of 1961 and remained for 12 weeks. In an otherwise sweet and mostly acoustic tune, those incongruous 19 seconds of buzzing presaged decades of distorted guitar to come..."

Happy birthday fuzz! Here's to 50,000 more!

Guitar/bass gear is probably the only area where things actually were better in "the good old days." Now, it's just so much more profitable to cater to the 13 year old kids who'll make their parents buy a beginner guitar because it looks bad ass, take 3 months of lessons and then give it up forever.

Ah, well. If it gets me one hypothetical step closer to your gear, I'll take it!

I'm glad to be a part of it.

I think I speak for us all when I say "I <3 Fuzz."

I don't know where I heard the term, but it's catchy.
