That's actually a pretty cool ideaology. My two stepkids dad raised them on death metal and grindcore (and "pirate metal"
) and its actually kind of noticeable how much of an effect it had on their personalities. I want to introduce my child mainly to artistic music, music that pushes the boundaries between entertainment and art. So that as they grow no matter which music they choose to listen to it will hopefully encourage thinking and feeling, not drinking / partying / womanizing. So they understand that music should be the soundtrack to the soul, not the party. I will always encourage them to listen tot he music they want to, but if they show interest in a certain genre no matter what it is I will always try and show them the best music of that genre. I would encourage them to listen to hip hop if thats what they like, but I'll be showing them the poets not the thugs.
Yeah man - I put a lot of pressure on myself about it especially since I can't conceive naturally. Now that there is a bun in the oven and it's baking correctly I'm all smiles anymore
Pirate Metal lulz. Didn't even know that was a thing. And I love that approach and hope I'm the same way. I don't really care what they listen to or pursue as long as it's constructive and has artistic worth (even though it's ultra douchey for me to pass judgement on shit like that) - I'll just point them in the right direction when they express interest. I actually had a wake up call about how important just listening to music is to me not long ago - my youngest brother in law said that he doesn't intentionally listen to music. Ever. And I just about went insane because that was a possibility that never occurred to me. I hope this little guy/girl is into it as well.

That is rad - I'm totally going to play that for the kid. All the rock lullabies sound really cool to me since I will be able enjoy them as well.

Definitely went through the 'I don't much care for my parents' stage, but I always liked their music. Hard not to like Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, and Cream though.
I'm not trying to think of "I hope they like this... or I hope they like that...." as I want them to develop their own tastes, I want to introduce them to music but I do not want to dictate to them what they can or should listen to. I went through that as a teenager with my mother and it just pushed me further down the rabbit hole. I dont want to do that to my child.
