Re: new sunny day delay day
Cool Tim! I wonder what finish you got.. and if it's a 4 knobber or 5 knobber...
I guess I hope you guys will get 5 knobbers as that's the updated version that I'd rather be judged on... and I personally think it was a mistake to make a non-compandered 2399 delay, should have done that from the get-go.

Well, sorry to report it's a four knobber. Don't worry, I'll love it just the way it is! And, I'll keep my eyes open for a five knobber too. One can never have too many sunny days!
It has the White Picket Fence finish, which I always thought was perfect for a sunny day delay finish. I was actually going to ask, do you have any idea about how many white picket SDDs were made?
Looks like Canada Post will be delivering tomorrow, so I'll be sure to check back in with a pic and the serial #.

So the 4 knobber is companderless and the 5 knob isn't? Is that the main difference between V1 and V2 aside from the depth knob?

The Sunny Day Delay arrived safe and sound! I won't have a chance to take a pic, or even try it until late tonight, but will do so before the evening is through!
And whoa, looks like I got me some vintage Dr. Scientist here, this one is SN#005 from Sep 2006!

Dang I wish my Pirate Day Delay was the five knobber but it sounds flipping great regardless. More mod control is always fine by me tho.

And here ya go, it's real!
And daaayum, it sounds as good as it looks! Now I see why everyone goes nuts over these things. Amazing how accurately it responds like my analog delays; amazingly dynamic! After taking this pic I bumped the DMMTT off my main board...
Any btw Ryan: the pink LED in the centre of the pink flower is such a nice touch!

When I first stumbled upon Dr. Scientist wares on Analogue Haven's site years ago, that's the Sunny Day Delay they had up along with the glorious Off The Airberator. I was intrigued to say the very least.

Although my Dr. Scientist arsenal is piddly compared to many on here, happy to say I have some real winners:Holy Schnikes wrote:When I first stumbled upon Dr. Scientist wares on Analogue Haven's site years ago, that's the Sunny Day Delay they had up along with the glorious Off The Airberator. -mini off-the-airberator
-Cosmichorus v3
-Blue Sparkle-Tremolessence
-White picket Sunny Day Delay
I'm starting to feel the need to catch 'em all. My better judgement (and my wife) say I need to resist this impulse...

Re: new sunny day delay day
Tim, my buddy, I probably would have steered you away from that old one.. you must think it sounds so crude! Super noisy, terrible input stage, not enough filtering.. I took too many liberties with the guitar signal (I'm talking 1M series resistance into inverting input here folks) and the delay line was too lofi... oh man, I feel bad you have such an oldie! Hit me up if you get sick of the noise/sound of that pedal and we'll make an update plan...
There's probably a couple dozen white picket fence finishes out there, Tanya and I really love them too. Pretty cool it's so old though, that's one month into business for us, we sold our first pedal in August 2006.
I didn't send out too many of those old SDDs before people started complaining about the noise. I even heard comments like ridiculous and unusable, did more than one return of custom finishes, had a store say it was unsellable... it was pretty demoralizing.
After that I changed to my patented (not at all, just kidding) input and output buffer scheme with better filtering and made it a much lower noise circuit. And then after that I added the compander to make it even lower noise, plus some extra control for the modulation.
