Haldeman has written two others in what has become known as the Forever War series...'Forever Free' is a direct sequel to FW and a continuation of William and Marygay's story; 'Forever Peace' is not a direct sequel at all, but has similar themes/ideas as FW. Both are recommended.

I finally cracked open Vonnegut's Player Piano...and tore through about half of it in one shot. Pretty damn good so far. Being a disaffected engineer definitely helps, but it's not a requirement. :thumb:

It took me a while but I really enjoyed how that book panned out as I got further and further. Probably my 2nd favorite Vonnegut next to Sirens.

On a related note: Kraken has been absolutely brutal to get through, but after about the half way point it really picked up.
Hopefully Mieville was just doing some experimenting and hasn't lost his touch. It is getting quite good now though.

Good for you why to persist!

I'm reading this for an art project:

It is an excellent reader. I am thinking of getting some of the others from this series for my self. (Ruins and Failure are particularly interesting)

I am reading this for fun. It's a gothic novel and quite enjoyable so far.

A postmodern roman à clef opens after the second reading into a really intense and thought provoking study on human frustration, leaning on the French existentialist movement if anything. To Camus' Silent Men for example.

A must for the modern literature and art students. ...and I'm going to slip a copy of it with fake front page into the essential readings folder of The New Literature Course for intermediate level.

Garrison Keillor's 'Leaving Home - A Collection Of Lake Wobegone Stories'...amazing stuff, in an understated way.

Opening Skinners box for AP Psych, it's really interesting; it's making me believe that this year of Psych is going to be sweet.
Oh and Frankenstein; it's pretty slow in the beginning. I've heard it gets better eventually though.
