maybe the click is in the release instead of the attack?

well, the envelope attack/release treats the sample as any waveform I guess. Like when I hold down and let the sample loop, at the end of each loop it clicks. I sometimes manage to get it smooth by adjusting the length of the sample but I was thinking that maybe someone had some concrete tips

I do not other than tweaking the start/end times or attack/decay

just continue tweaking your loop length by the smallest increments possible*, you can usually remove the click noise that way

*while staying around the same desired loop length

@Willy - That image on page 1. Bravo Sir! I thought you inadvertently titled the thread after the French Classic, and "edge lord" me wanted to post a still from it, again, thinking it was inadvertent. But I checked page 1 and I'm glad I did! BRAVO!

MPC One - my tool for sitting on the couch and sampling records and making sketches or just obliterating samples. Relatively simple to get going, but def will need to shed the manual. Has the most functionality of any new samplers.

1010 blackbox - prob the simplest way to achieve what you want without the limitations of the elektron/te stuff.

Pioneer Toraiz SP-16 - somewhat between the 1010 blackbox and MPC as far as functionality.

Or if you wanna go big, get an old school Akai S-900/950/1000/1100, or ensoniq eps-16+/ASR-10, those sound amazing and are more rewarding in the end, but def more of a pain to use.

I vote for MPC One for couch noodles

Wtvr u get, you’ll have to spend time reading the manuals and learning, no easy way around it.

That image is one of the best things to come out of this thread, but I can’t take the credit for it. It was done by the talented coupleonapkins. I tried to insert it as a quote, but it didn’t work and at the time I was too lazy to figure out why.

This is the truth. So far I’m bonding nicely with the OP-Z, there’s still a lot I have to learn about it. Last night I tried sampling from my 808 clone and gameboy and it worked rather seamlessly. I’m probably going to dig into some old, open domain movies and start using those as sound sources.

The MPC one did way too much and made everything much more complicated than I wanted. If I were going the MPC route, I’d definitely get it over one of the older ones (the screen would make it a lot easier to navigate and see where you’re at).

Yeah, if it is the only way it’s the only way. Cheers

Nice, OP-Z sounds like a good match for you. Watch out for "open domain" movies/audio, many are in fact still subject to commercial copyright on the writer's side.

Agreed on MPC, it can do a lot more, but that also requires spending a lot more time to learn it (tho it's still relatively simple for basic sampling/beat-making). Now that they've added multi-channel simultaneous midi i/o it can be the center sequencer station in a DAW-less setup (just like the MPC1000). MPC One has 1 port with 16 channels, MPC Live/Live MKII has 2 ports (32 Channels total).

Here's a pretty cool demo from Perfect Circuit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBP4aOF0X5I

I guess the coolest thing would be that it prob is the easiest to use with minimal menus or having to remember weird shortcuts. It also seems to check the box of the OP (small, multi-samples, can be transposed, sequencer, midi i/o, modern UI, ease of integration, sampling direct, tons of hd space, disk-streaming, ease of firmware update, no weird older protocols and design features that make things a pain in the butt).

Additionally, it has 6 analog outputs for multi-tracking (elektron requires overbridge connected to DAW), and 1010 seems very regular with adding features and listening to customer feedback.

I think it would suit you well to be able to come up with ideas either as a standalone unit, with other synths/samplers, or even as a sound module that's triggered by a DAW (ie send midi out of Ableton/Logic/Pro Tools and use blackbox's 6 analog outputs as your drums (kick, snare, hat, cymbal, perc 1, perc 2) and run that into a console.

Here's also good rundown of features by loopop from a year ago, but they've added more features since (can't remember exactly, but I believe some addressed his wishlist): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcADNN9_Sok

The blackbox really does look cool in such a tiny box. The time stretching/tempo match for loops is fantastic.

It does a lot for a small device and is very powerful. I also forgot to list that it does multi-channel midi as well (ie pad one can have a sample that is triggered from midi channel 1, and thus you can play it chromatically...and polyphonically...or pad 1 can trigger an external synth and on midi channel 1 and play that chromatically and polyphonically if it's a poly synth). Also can play and record stereo samples. More akin to a scaled down MPC with an easier workflow.

I'm always weary of time-stretching algos. The only company who I think did it really well with minimal artifacts is Serato (check out their Pitch n Time Pro AAX audiosuite plugin).

I love the 1010 Blackbox. It is very easy to use, spent minimal time getting up and running with it.

But it is a very simple straight-forward device. If you are looking for lots of effects, weird random sequencing or other more esoteric features or even to just be surprised every once in awhile with a feature you did not know about, the blackbox is not for you. But for my purposes, it is perfect.

Yes I like the midi functionality too. Very cool!!!!

I'm ok with stretching artefacts, I quite like them most of the time. The demo I heard of the blackbox was certainly good enough for my purposes - but I don't mind a bit of grit and weirdness in samples.
