Well I'm not American, but let me reword that. I'll be about 4000km closer than I would have been otherwise

What's that quote? Americans think 100 years is a long time and Europeans think 100 miles is a long way? Something like that?

Wasn't meant offensive!
But in a German's view it's kinda funny to hear someone saying that Iceland is "so damned close" to Oslo. Can be compared with Miami being damned close to Seattle. And 100 years IS a long time. We're no turtles, my dear.

Hahahaha it's fine (I think November takes more offense at being mistaken for being American when he's Canadian -- it's like someone from Austria being called Hungarian, if that bit of border/national superiority stereotype still applies)

But he lives on the continent with the name America! I live in Europe and it's not offensive at all if someone calls me a "European".

In both cases it's not around the corner.

It is what it is but I think 'American' is mostly a pejorative these days, particularly when you're mistaken for one

I'm definately coming if I'm not away on summer vacation with the kids. I live like 1 hour away so it would be stupid to miss out.

No worries, no real offence taken, but yeah I would take more offense being mistaken for American. It's true that Canada is part of North America, but America has kind of given us a bad reputation (no offense to the Americans here, you're all cool). My original post was poorly worded so that's definitely on me.

Just so you know, I think most people outside of the US think of Canada as the preferable country to live in. That's my experience, at least. Most people actually hate the US (world police, extreme captialism etc). But still, they love American culture. It's a conundrum.
