I recently acquired something like this:
first step is to play with the shape a bit
and get rid of all the clear coating
messing with my Bass

Re: messing with my Bass
the shape is really nice & comfortable
confusingly so
when I played it the first time at home
I started wondering if I bought a short scale by mistake
plus I like the sound of that reverse preci pickup
Plans...
nothing too fancy, really
I might still make the horns a bit pointier
but apart from that just apply oil instead of clear coat,
might use coloured oil
and maybe make a pickguard
but usually the ideas come while working on it
and everything takes much longer than I think

Re: messing with my Bass
whoa, those are rad!dubkitty wrote:John Cipollina's SGs!
some of those pickguard parts aren't doing a lot of actual pick guarding
but they sure make the guitar look sexy
bit of a TK Smith vibe for that SG...
last time I worked on the bass doing a bit of sanding
I was listening to Jeff Goldblums jazz album
that has The Beat Goes On on it
that made me think of the 90s and The All Seeing Eye
and that gave me another idea for colour & pickguard...
we'll see where/how fast this goes
currently waiting on a new plate for my grinder, the old one just sends the sandpaper flying across the room
if only I could remember who I lent it to last

Re: messing with my Bass
well, everything that makes it so comfortable is staying the same really
I'm just doing some minor tweaks to get it more in line
with the poor Strat-Cheapo I ... expertly modded ages ago

Re: messing with my Bass
aw, man...
this IS gonna take longer than expected
I guess this could use some new frets.
I also guess this goes to teach you kids:
no matter how nice the conversation with the seller,
no matter how reputable & trustworthy the in person impression
do not buy your bass on the street from a car
in the dark
