I've thought about the Toneczar stuff often actually. The problem with that is that people just keep selling the stuff on Reverb.com and they've actually kind of fucked the supply and demand. I mean, I basically stole my Echoczar and got it for half the price I had gotten my last one and it was polished, newer and came with the expression pedal. So, yea. LOL

I mean, it's still possible. Just that it seems the collectors have gotten what they are looking for. It's a hard to sell item regardless.

The bass is my best option, I just love both of them.

The thing that sucks about my Elrick is now that I have an MTD again, I am having trouble going from 34" to 35" scale. The neck on my Elrick is so freaking different, but tonally I adore both of them.

So, I have two pretty expensive basses.

I mean, every time I talk about shit like this, it ends up getting worked out. So maybe I just need to talk.

Especially since I've been going through so much fucking drama lately. It helps me just to talk about this type of thing. Rationalizing shit in the right way you know?

I'm also starting to record more, so I want to be able to do that without it sounding like shit. That's where my focus is.

Like, do you have a stack of pedals that are not on your board? Cause I'd go through them and sell some that aren't being used, at least that would minimize the debt and you wouldn't have to let go of your more prized possessions. Then, come November or something, you can see how you feel.

Sell most of the pedals that can be easily reacquired, make a smaller board as a challenge (t's more fun than it sounds) and re-buy those easily attainable pedals when you're able?
Would also definitely lean towards selling the bass over the pedals in that situation.

But I think we both know why you compulsively shop, and the important thing is that you recognize when it's gone too far.

Fuckin A sell everything and start over. You'll get back to where you are now, but it'll take three years before you wind up in a financial crisis, and you'll be good until then. And very busy hunting down and flipping pedals.

Depends on your situation outside the gear. If free time is a commodity you have, I'd hustle, eat ramen and pay it off. If you're married with kids and you're keeping food on the table and have lots of non-work important stuff to fill up your time, I'd hustle and tighten up any discretionary spending as much as is reasonable and sell off what you can stand to lose. That or sell something that has held its value or appreciated and could be replaced with something that gets the same job done but is less cool/hyped. I have bought tons of gear on small loans to get my ideal rigs and had to sell off most of it before, because I was the sole earner in the house. It sucks, but I held onto my best custom stuff and the cheap gear that's worth more to keep than sell. I liquidated all my "sleeper" gear that has cultural cache and appreciated in value over the years. I'll never be able to buy another Laney AOR 100 for $200, but I'm also not lost without it.

On that tip, I can only express sympathy. I'm almost the polar opposite, no matter how much money I have saved up or how much I'm making, I have a really hard time spending money on myself. Which is definitely a relative statement, because before my wife and I had kids and we both worked full time, we made good money and didn't have much in the way of bills really. At one point I essentially had a home bass and guitar rig, then a practice space full of all my gear and then a warehouse full of collected stuff. Even so, I never spent more than $100-200 a month max and I'm not into cars, gadgets, clothes/shoes, video games or anything but music and tools (which I also mostly liquidated at our financially tightest). So I basically just took out a small loan every 3-5 years for something like $5500 worth of gear and then just worked out buy/sell/trade swaps with gear I already had to upgrade things.

I don't have much in the way of advise on curbing GAS. I still have it, I've just got an equally strong impulse of choice paralysis and a hard time spending money I have saved.

I'd hold onto what you have any responsible way you can and if your business venture doesn't pan out, then start liquidating. Normally I would condone the ole credit card round robin thing for making payment, but if it's short term and you credibly think you're going to get a cash influx enough to pay stuff off, hold out any way you can. I really miss some of the cool shit I liquidated, I basically had every "cool guy" rig I ever wanted from my youth 5 years ago. I've still got some good stuff, but most of it is gone. Of course now own my house, have no debt and savings in the bank. So it was for a reason.
