When I ate such things, I used to prefer the corned beef.

I stopped eating meat in 1998 and the only thing I miss is pastrami.

As a Quebecer I went to
Katz's Delicatessen on the Lower East Side full of smug Canadian incredulity.
Essentially, I was thinking, "No fucking
way, that this place can even
touch Schwartz's."
With my sandwich, I ate my words; for it was as much sliced
Heaven, as it was sliced meat.
I would go back to NYC
literally just to get a Reuben and a matzo ball soup again.
(Apologies to Celine Dion, also condolences.)

I just had a Pastrami sandwich this afternoon. On Dark Rye. Smoked Cheddar. Everything. Extra Mayo. And side of Potato Salad.

I was taught by my Dad that a pastrami sandwich means dark rye bread, hot mustard, sauerkraut, pastrami and nothing else. This is a poor Jewish sandwich.
A Rueben had corned beef and swiss and russian dressing, and was a separate thing entirely.

All I can think is, "Where's the fuckin' rye?"
aside:
Whoever came up with the name "corned beef" should be shot. They kept me from eating it most of my life. These days, I like to worship it.

Sometimes I think about other lunch meats. I mostly think about pastrami though.

This place in the Caribbean makes their own pastrami in house over the course of a week. It's like eating gods foreskin. Served with its own jus.
