Good Cartoons for Kids

Post by Invisible Man »

I can't handle watching the first season of Sofia the First again. I just can't do it.

What else is out there? My daughter is two and a half, so you smartasses can keep your Xavier, Renegade Angel to yourselves.

I only use Netflix, and Hulu, mind you, though I do have access to a Slingbox.

Octonauts is on Netflix and its great. Mouk is also a good one. Both are good for boys and girls I think. My kid is 3 and has started watching some annoying bullshit.

Whatever you do, never EVER watch Caillou. It's basically a show about how being a whiny little bitch will get you what you want. I think there's an actual lesson in most episodes but I just can't get through it.

Also try Peppa Pig. Basically anything that's not from the US is pretty okay. Caillou is Canadian but still sucks.

My four year old and I enjoy watching Amazing World of Gumball, Chowder, Uncle Grandpa, etc. Most Cartoon Network shows.

Caillou is the worst thing that has even happened to children's television. Hell, all of it is complete utter shit, but Caillou is like some special level of being awful.

I really wish there was a Caillou episode where he just got pushed down stairs for 30 minutes. I'm glad I've only seen it at my sisters place and don't have kids of my own, endless torture.

Oh, also on YouTube, the Kids Picture Show channel has some really cool videos with shapes and colors and different vehicles, with a badass 8 bit soundtrack to boot!

Amazon Prime has Tumbleleaf which looks like Fantastic Mr. Fox or something. Very adorable.

Also on the No Watch List is Blippy. On YouTube. I want to shoot Blippy in his fucking stupid shit eating face.

My kid was into Adventure Time but started punching stuff so... There's another cool one on Sprout maybe? It's called Clangers and its about aliens and William Shatner narrates it.

Oh, and course, Yo Gabba Gabba! Coolest kids show around right now.

Fuck yeah, I love Peppa Pig. Forget about her...my two year-old has Peppa pajamas, and sleeps with a stuffed Peppa and George combo (dinosaur!). I gotta hunt some of those episodes down...have a DVD somewhere.

I'll check out Octonauts--haven't seen it. Never even heard of Mouk.

I saw a few minutes of Caillou, and got irritated. So boring and pastel.

Cartoon Network is kinda madcap for her right now, I think, but I haven't checked out any of their stuff in probably fifteen years, so what do I know. Ren and Stimpy?

Don't know Yo Gabba Gabba, either. Is Backyardigans a thing? That sounds familiar, too.

I like that Peppa has a family, and everyone's not always perfect, and the parents kinda fuck things up sometimes. It's charming and "real," at least as far as a kid-oriented cartoon about anthropomorphic animals can be.

Two things that irk the shit out of me, though: the pigs' eyes are always on one side of their face.
Image
That's some pink-era Picasso-level shit right there.

And the animals have pets that are...other animals. Like, some animals function at a higher plane of consciousness than others. I don't know how this is differentiated, and it weirds me out, and makes me question my own place in the chain of being.

Wow, I hadn't even thought about them being different. Mind blown. I still struggle with Donald/Daffy, and they're way more distinct.

Donald and Daffy at least are on different cartoons

I always wondered how Mickey explained Owning a Dog to Goofy.

Cartoons are not built for this kind of logic. It makes them way too sinister. Still creepy as hell, though.

I have five three year olds......quintuplets. Three boys and two girls. One girl loves Pim and Pimba on Hulu. They both love The Wiggles. I actually respect them as it really is teaching your kids that playing instruments is the right way. One adores Sofia....sorry. Goldie and Bear is cool. I hate Dora but they love it. Yo Gabba Gabba is cool....created by MC Bat Commander with the Aquabats! Disney movies. All of them. Lady and the Tramp. Cinderella. Aladin.

All of my kids JUST got into Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack. Amen!
