F'ed up sinuses and Neti Pot ain't cutting it

I've always had sinus issues and I've just kind of forgotten about it it, taking a pill here and there when it got bad.

The other day my nose was super clogged, couldn't breathe through my nose, and my friend offered me some Afrin (nasal spray). I'd never used it before and holy moly - it cleared my nose super fast. I've used it once a day for two days - the other day and day before yesterday. After reading about it and the blowback it can cause - congestion coming back even stronger and causing a dependance on the nasal spray, I decided to find something else.

I got a Neti Pot and some distilled water. Ran the stuff through my nose with no relief.

Anyone have sinus issues and have a good, healthy remedy?

I have bad sinuses too...no solutions though...actually saline solution does kind of help...

do u have the neti pot that maybe kinda looks like a tea pot and the water kinda drips or flows slower thru your nasal? or do u have the one thats like a plastic water bottle that u can squeeze a lil bit more to shoot the water thru?

in my experience, the latter is much better at clearing your shit out b/c of the added pressure you can apply. its like chilling in an outdoor sauna, in the mountains, on an island. very refreshing. i tried both kinds and the difference between the two, i thought was night and day.

i think the one i have is called sani-rinse

Do you smoke? I found after quitting that what I had suspected to be hay fever just turned out to be irritated sinuses from smoke, it got a whole lot worse when quitting before it got better.

Mine are rough,too. Tried a neti pot once...water went in, took three agonizing days to drip slowly back out, causing a kind of mutant sinus infection along the way. Sometimes I just smear Vick's Vapo Rub in my nostrils, deal with the burn, and pray things will change.

Sinus trouble is a bummer. I don't want meds--none have worked, anyway--so I, too, would love to hear from others.

I had to get nasal surgery about a month ago, it was called a Turbinate Reduction, they basically cauterized a bunch tissue out of my nose and then fractured a bone out ignored to open up my nasal passage. The recovery has been slow. I have seen some consistent improvement and moments of completely good nasal breathing so I am hopeful that it will continue to improve. The reality is that I probably will need to get a second, more serious surgery to breathe really well...

I've never been able to breath through my nose with any regularity. I have constant headaches from sinus problems/allergies/stupid septum...First thing I did was get my wisdom teeth out (turns out they were blocking my eustation tube and creating pressure on my ears too). But when I moved to LA, everything got worse...now I take allegra everyday plus nasonex or whatever (great prices at costco..got one year of allegra for $15 and the nasonex was cheap too). Umm, yea, I miss a day I get horrible headaches within an hour. Don't know if that helps. I probably need to finish the ear tests and get something done to my nose...but yea...kinda trying to avoid what deltaphoenix is talking about..but I think it might be unavoidable.

My gf's father had to have his doctor drill into his face to get all the puss out. It shot out like a geysir (ehheheeheh...twss). Just saying. Always neti pot before it gets too bad.

So last night my nose was pretty plugged up. I can't complain and say it was unbearable but I haven't had that happen in a while. I think perhaps it was a rebound to the 2 day use of Afrin. I'm glad I didn't use it last night. Later that evening I did some facial massage exercises via youtube which helped. One nostril is a little plugged but I feel better. I'm gonna get checked up to see if I have anything that is chronic.

My wife's allergist buddies from Med School/Residency have all said that it is exceptionally bad this year. I can confirm its shittiness.

Please, no one rely on cocaine for relief...
