Yeah it's really not that bad. Day off of work paid (employers must pay you) to pretty much just sit in a room and watch movies all day until you are MAYBE called onto a case, and then the chance of actually having to sit through that case are even more slim

Re: Jury Duty
Not sure where you are, but here it's a big deal if you just skip out. You can get out of it with a good reason, otherwise you have to go. It's a legal summons.

I've gotta go next month. I was supposed to go in April but I never got the letter telling me what date! It was kind of a pain in the ass to get a hold of someone about it, but dealing with anything with the city of Detroit is a pain in the ass.
I would just go. Better than possible jail time or a fine.

Go. If you end up sitting in the jury box while they're still choosing, and need to get out, then stare creepily at the defendant.

Re: Jury Duty
my wife had it.
she ended up on a murder case. Murder 1. Big time sh!t baby. But you know what? It was self-defense, and the defendant took the stand and his story swayed the jury. Now he walks a (rightly) free man.
Think what would have happened if my (intelligent) wife had stayed home?

Re: Jury Duty
The law on this varies by state. Most require an employer to pay full time employees their regular wage, but only for a certain time (5 days is pretty common). If you get put on a capital/criminal case (murder, etc), you could be on the trial for months, and you could run into trouble on pay or be forced to use up all your paid time off. Granted, the state offers a daily wage for jury duty, but it's token payment (something around $35 - $50 per day).skullservant wrote: Day off of work paid (employers must pay you)
So yeah, jury duty is a civic obligation that is good to do. But there are cases in which it can seriously put a kink in your life for months. If you have a lot of family obligations, let the court officers know and usually they don't give you any shit about being dismissed.
I *almost* got put on a murder case in 2013. It was right after I had taken a new job, and the projected trial schedule was from the middle of September through the beginning of November (3 or 4 days a week). Also, my wife and I had just started the IVF process, and that would have likely caused problems. Luckily, the defendant agreed to a plea deal just as the final round of juror selection was starting. That would have really sucked.

Re: Jury Duty
I went, got picked for a murder trial. I lasted two weeks, and I got paid the whole time plus extra per diem from the court. It was fucking boring as hell, the DA and the lawyer of the accused had their heads up their asses, and I had rolled my dads truck a week before so sitting all day was killing my neck.
But yeah, if I ever get picked for jury duty again, all I have to do is mention that I sat on a murder trial, and they'll let me go.
(Bonus story time!!! The place where the murder occurred? My stolen car was found chopped up and dumped a block from it)

Or when you are up for selection just tell them you are corruptable. If that doesn't work just tell them you are a misanthrope and racist.sears wrote:Go. If you end up sitting in the jury box while they're still choosing, and need to get out, then stare creepily at the defendant.

I got called once. I told them that I don't trust cops.
They let me go home shortly thereafter.
