takes till about 3 minutes in to get interesting, and i'd rather it was more like angrier Squarepusher from back in the day, but still.

Re: mmmmmYEP
I thought it was a pretty interesting video throughout. Don't care for the music. I never would have guessed that was squarepusher. I also noted the pick angle used on the strings ... about 45 degrees. I wonder how that was chosen.

Re: mmmmmYEP
Maybe the strings would vibrate too much and cause errors when it was picking super fast if the picks were completely parallel?

Interesting, cool project!
I love Squarepusher.
At first I only listened without looking at the video and I thought there was just a lot of tapping and overdubs going on but from a later point on it become really clear that that wasn't what's happening.
In my opinion he only halfway succeeded in his goal though, apart from the opening (till about 2.15) it really doesn't move me emotionally and especially later on in the piece (from 2.45 on) it sounds downright ugly like guitar and bass samples out of a Yamaha Motif or something.
I think it's actually a great example of and makes quite a strong case for "perfect played" music seriously lacking in elemental departments to be honest.
Nevertheless a very interesting project and again something completely new for Squarepusher, I can only express my appreciation for that.

Re: mmmmmYEP
I was looking some more into this, I must say I do love that track, only saw the video about four times but I've been humming the main melody off and on for a few days now…
Anyway, apparently the mini album is already out and you can listen to it here:
https://bleep.com/release/49560-squarep ... for-robots
Not much drums on the other tracks though, even the drum parts on "Sad Robot Goes Funny" also sound quite simple to me, there's not much polyrhythms and crazy hi-hats and snares going on in it like you'd expect on a Squarepusher release so it doesn't really sound as crazy, I think the drum-robot maybe can't perform those kind of complex rhythms so that might be why he left it out for most of the other tracks.
Apparently the guitar-robot only has one volume at which it can perform the notes so that might be why it sounds a bit like a MIDI sample at some points.
So it seems what the robots can do technically (the speed at which they can play for instance) is quite advanced but what they can do musically (playing dynamics and polyrhythms for instance) is still quite limited.
The other tracks I found with the Z Machines so far are quite "meh" I think but nevertheless it's a pretty interesting project and maybe with better sound and more complex programming possibilities in the future I'm quite curious what it can bring.
Thanks for pointing this out Ben!
