COT: Have anyone called you an guitar elitist?

Post by dangergirlstarship »

Answer the question.

I do not consider myself a guitar elitist. I do not have fancy guitars or 500 dollar pedals, because I don't have money for those or those don't interest me, that's just my style. I may have over alot of money worth of stuff but that doesn't mean I'm an elitist. When I say that I think you should have or "need" some boutique or vintage pedals, I mean it in a nice way, to better your tone and add some originality to your sound. Sound is important. That's my two cents. I "believe" that every pedalboard should have vintage, boutique and maybe some mainstream pedal, but not all vintage, boutique, or main stream, then that makes you an elitist right?

I'm so confused now and sad. :(

I've changed the topic from "Do you consider yourself a guitar elitist?" to "Have anyone called you an guitar elitist?

My part, I was offended when I was called this, I don't have nice guitars or high ended amps, the only thing nice is that I have a few prize possesions of pedals: 1975 MXR Phase 45, Eletric Mistress, 90's memory man, and some good boutique pedals. But if you were to see my EM and DMM, they look like fucking hell because I got them that way, because I didn't care as long as they worked, and I gotten lucky with these pedals, it not like I was given a silver spoon, and stuff, I saved money and waited for the right price to get these. How does that make me an elitist?

Not wanting to come across the wrong way, but I don't think that it matters that much.

In a way, I kind of admire the guitarists that don't know what they're playing because they just do what they do and don't really care about appearances. :idk:

I prefer to think of myself as a guitar super-villain or maniac. People tend to look at my gear and then get a confused expression on their faces.

Why a 12 string?

Does that whammy bar actually work?

Why do you have 3 amps?

What is that?

 :p :)* :yay:

Some people do. I don't care about appearances neither, I just play because I enjoy it and it keeps me alive and sober from drugs and other things. I'm 22 and I could be in a lot of trouble, getting some girl pegrant, doing coke, or something else. I just keep to myself and I am bit of a pedal (aren't we all on here) nerd. I think I may have make myself look like a bit of asshole just because I told someone that they should need some vintage or boutique and it was some girl that acted smart with me. I am bit depressed right now because I didn't mean to be an asshole or anything, just was giving her some future advice for later on if she ever decided to change her pedalboard, just unwanted advice, that was bad on my part, I guess (It was nothing but brand new EHX and Boss gear, not that there's anything wrong with that, it just that I when I see someone who likes to play with effects and are close minded and not open to boutique or vintage stuff, they start all going that I'm a fucking elitist and shit.)

yeah, I'll admit that I'm a tone snob (aren't we all) but doesn't mean that I'm an elitist.

I know, this girl was all like "You're acting like a guitar elitist and stuff" and I'm like, to myself, "No I am not", I'm just giving out helpful advice for the future. I am always chaning my pedalboard and shit like that, that's what i am mean. Aren't we all.

I consider myself a material manipulator. A bricoleur of sorts.
Not quite a master...but feel like I can make something happen with anything.
With some time to explore an instrument, effect, electronics etc I'll get something out of it, even if it's just 1 note or idea.
I trust my ear, and have made more of an effort to be an elite listener than musician.

Bought my first guitar in 2011, for $60. An early 80s DuoSonic clone from the far east.
Not because it's all I could afford or because it was cheap. Because it sounded good by not sounding great, which is what I wanted at the time.
Although that's kind of my greater preference. I like dirt, grit, dissonance, imperfection. And the act of taking one man's trash and using it as treasure.

By striving for results of excellence through mostly humble means and an ever present degree of mystique, I'm rewarded with fleeting satisfaction and increased curiosity.

But some guitars are just U G L Y with no ALIBI. Like the Vaibanezes. Sorry, Steve. :hello:

YES! YES! I think the point that I am trying to make is that tone is important to the person. But you have a originality idea and my argruement is about originality in tone and sounding different from others and not be copied by someone else, you like what you think is cool but you do it in a original way, a way that makes hard for person to replicate that sound, for all we know, you may have the only guitar that proudces that tone. And yes, people who aren't guitarist and are eitle listeners do not care about guitars and sometimes the amp you use but the tone you are getting out of it. Finding tone is important. I was told today that I need "practice, find tone, and then add fxs", uh, duh, pedals and amps are what makes the tone, unless you believe that myth that tone comes out of your fingers, yeah DNA is cool...

And, for those who write original songs know what I'm talking about...I think. You want to be fun but original. I think that was the point that I was trying to make about pedals but then I got bashed about being called a guitar elitist and that I needed practice by two different people. That's total bullshit. Fuck, I hate youtube.

Also, my argument is about if you go to guitar center (nothing wrong with that, I love guitar used gear, you made hit the jackpot) and buy a pedal that everyone else has, that is easy to get, asscess to, then you in danger, because there are a billion and a billlion of people in the world that can and will get the same sound and will probably rip you off in the music world and they will get famous and rich and you be like "dude, I had the same setup and I could've gotten rich and famous". That was my point.

I'm such acting like a winy baby. What upseted me is that this chick thought that I had a strymon pedal. I have never owned or have no need for one and she dares calls me a guitar elitist.

I have a catamaran built entirely out of the wood from vintage les pauls and if I ever see anyone with a Squier I kidnap them and tattoo the entirety of one of their butt cheeks a faux mahogany grain pattern. I once stabbed a man through the throat with a NOS 6v6 tube in Belize for trying to play jazz on an Eastwood. When I tie up my lovers I always make sure to use Monster cables.

Frankly, your question insults me.
