Yummiest comment at a show?

Post by behndy »

murrrrr? my favorite thing lately is NOT hearing, "huh huh you sound like Tool mixed with Primus!" and hearing people tell me, "that does NOT sound like just two people playing.".

that makes me ALL kinds of giggly.

i mean, hearing othwr musicians say nice things about technique or toanz or whatever is really nice, but from random people just listening... that shits is GOOOOOD.

meow? wassat?

When Dr. Sherm and I played out one time, someone said "I've never heard anything like that before" which made me really happy.

"That was inspiring"

"What's that pedal that makes everything go woooooshhhhwpooosshhhwoooosh" - referring to the Cosmichorus

"You do some crazy things with feedback and oscillation"

But mostly that saying "that was inspiring" meant the most to me. The mere "that was cool" does nothing for me anymore.

My favorite thing is seeing guys from the other bands come up and look at my setup and kinda be confused. then we play and those same guys get this moment of revelation look like "ahhh, now I get it"

Having people come up afterwards and want to get in depth talking about it is really cool as well. It shows they are interested and excited about it. Thats the best when people get it and get engaged and want to know more. It's also really cool to see those same faces at the next show.

f'sure. i LOVE talking to people that are interested and ask neat questions.

i kinda hate the "how do you remember where everything IS" type comments before playing. dunno. it's like when we played with 2 bands a month or so ago it was AWESOME. one was a two piece with drums and bass that sang a little, the other was a three piece instrumental we'd played with before with drums, bass and keys. but the bass players in both other bands KILL. way better than what i can do.

so afterwards when people came up with compliments it felt like they actually like the music and appreciated the songs instead of just Oh Look A Wacky Bass Player With No Guitars kinda vibe? felt good butts.

Lat night was awesome like that. Played our first show with a band I've been following for a while now, really amazing musicians with a great vibe and there whole thing kills. To have them up front our whole set banging their heads and then after to hear "holy shit that was amazing you guys kiled it, I had no idea what to expect but that was awesome."
Good feels :)
Had a long conversation with a guy about "why 12 string" and got in depth about how it lets me eq differently and sounds bigger. same guy helped us load the van at the end of the night. I like the people that are thinking about it.

"That thing is huge... how do you play it?"

A bunch of dudes said that when I whipped out my old six string.

At my band's first show a few people came up to me and said we had an original style. I don't know if I 100% agree, but it made me happy nonetheless.

I've gotten "I've never heard a bass do that before" a few times. People seem to react weirdly to my music when theyve never heard IDM before. After one our weirder tracks, I once heard "I don't even know what that was!" I quite liked that one.

Oh and "that was one of the most insane fucking things I've ever heard!" But that was from a buddy so I'm not sure if that counts.

when i played at a battle of the bands a few years ago, this little kid around 5 years old came up to me and said "you were awesome!"
i could have died at that moment and it would have been alright

the last actual show I played was a long flipping time ago but I remember the promoter saying

"Dude sorry about the easter bunny"

It was a mall coffee house and he didn't realize the easter bunny was parked outside,
bunch of little kids looking terrified waiting in line to see a man in a bunny suit while I played

actually this morning the lady I was accompanying said "I really appreciate the fact that you can stay with me even when I sing of rhythm" that made me feel good cause it meant I was doing my job

I need to play out more for myself

I was playing a show near Detroit and the bartender told us that she had seen Sonic Youth while on acid, and that we were better :)

One of the owners of my local bar told me that I was the best bassist he had ever heard.
