Gear Somebody Should Make
I've had ideas for stuff I'd like to see exist but I sure as hell don't have the skills to do it or the money to get someone else to do it for me. Maybe we can get enough cool ideas and pool some resources and find a way to get some of them done.
Guitars
1. A lucite Iceman perhaps with a beveled edge body. I think EGC could do a cool job with this.
2. A proper reproduction of the old Ampeg Scroll bass. I love these things but they're pricey used and I've heard that many of them have significant problems that'll affect playability. Lucite, aluminum, they would all be cool. Even a composite style body might be nice. A solid aluminum neck would also really add serious sustain.
3. A baritone sitar like guitar. Fretless, with a sustainer type pickup, buzz-bridge. I saw this Scott Walker guitars (he makes crazy fancy shit) and thought how cool would a baritone be? Now i'm thinking maybe something else like an 8-string but with some of them paired like a 12-string normally is, like maybe the top 3 or 4 strings so you could have them as drones. Running this through an Eventide Space would be some crazy shit.

Amps
1. I wish I had more amp ideas but I've always wanted an amp with different power sections that I could blend together. The crunch of EL34's and the bottom balls and clarity of KT88's. I know there are varieties of this but I've never seen one quite right. I'm sure there are technical issue and they may need separate transformers or some shit but it would be cool.
2. I'd like to see something done in a new and unique way with a leslie style rotating speaker. They're heavy, temperamental and there's little to no market for the old ones let alone a revamping with new features but fuck it...they sound awesome live and you can't even vaguely reproduce that sound (in person at least) with a pedal.
Effects
1. I hope Eventide or Strymon (but preferably Eventide because they seem to come up with crazier shit) on next generation Pitchfactor. I think a lot can be done here and I'll be first in line when something new comes out. I would just like to know if and when so I decide on getting an H9 or Pitchfactor in the mean time or just holding on to my POG2.
2. I love the EHX Superego and I hope whatever evil genius that came up with it is hard at work on something else just as cool (and I hope they got a raise). It took me awhile to figure out a use for this pedal but once I did, I became addicted to it.

Re: Gear Somebody Should Make
the mesa simul class mark iii's have blended power sections. two el34's running in class a and two 6l6's running in class A/B. they sound pretty killer. definitely have the very distinctive voicing of the old mark series amps, which is crazy on the midrange. not for everyone but they are really cool and do sound good. i think they're quite overlooked.

Re: Gear Somebody Should Make
I really like the look of that Ampeg scroll bass and if I were still playing bass I would want to pick up the eastwood copy. I haven't played on so I don't know if I would actually like it but eh
I think electric amps usa offers a mix of power tubes on some of its models. I'm not sure if that is exactly what you were thinking though.
How do you use your superego? I have one but haven't really gotten to play with it much in a band setting. I have it set up with a crazy effect loop though, so I'm hoping to expand its role.

Re: Gear Somebody Should Make
I actually have a Mesa Mark III and while it blends EL34's and 6L6's you can't really dial in your own blends. Like, maybe I'd want more 34 crunch on the gain channel and less on the cleans. Egnater has come the closest to what I'd like but I don't care much for his amps overall tone.
It was only with a band that I could recognize how great that pedal can sound. I run it with a bit of gliss set reasonably fast with a heavy effect mix on the auto setting (I think). I get this wonderfully singing thing going on higher notes and with delay and a volume pedal I can get these deep, volcanic army of cello rumbles from the lower strings. Since I crank the mix I don't find the loop effective...it's better when you want to blend your cleans in there.

I'm pretty sure Pete Biltoft at Vintage Vibe Pickups will wind a set of these for you. A few of us over on sevenstring.org have been chatting with a rep from Lace about ERG-sized versions of their Aluma-90 pickup as well.Ancient Astronaught wrote:7 string humbucker sized p-90's.....

Yeah it seems like the Lace dudes are totally up for that kind of challenge. It doesn't seem like it would be hard to make a P90 of their 7 string models

My thing is I don't want to put 250$ worth of pickups in a 125$ guitar..... something just seems wrong about that....

Re: Gear Somebody Should Make
Technically, the Aluma-90 is wide enough to sense 7 strings - Ola Strandberg used it that way in one of his early builds - but it's not properly shaped for the usual passive-7 route. They've been very enthusiastic about our requests for more choice in ERG pickups (P-90, single-coils, Hemi/Nitro Hemi/Drop-and-Gain), so I'm hoping for the best.skullservant wrote:Yeah it seems like the Lace dudes are totally up for that kind of challenge. Skip, I would be right there with you for a seven string p90. Maybe we should get some stuff together and make a few to try out. We would probably have to me a bobbin right?

I was considering talking to avedissian pickups and see what he could do. He seems to like challenges like that and his build quality is top notch. Plus from what I can tell hes not outrageously over priced.

Hes good skip, I got one of his first ever sets. I dig them!
And as brootal as my roots in guitar are, I really fucking dig p 90s...
I want someone to make a pedal that would make my angry over gained out amps Jive with all other pedals without mush/mess/insane powerful effect. That way I could stereo/ tri amp all my expensive shit all at once and not spend so much time thinking of how to route tons of patches to get things workin.
Right now my boards a mess and Im having trouble getting it rollin.

Oh wow! There is a thread for this!
Just posted in the main thread about how rad I think it would be to have a Monson guitar body with an EGC neck
