TAFM dip switches

Post by Doctor X »

hello there are 3 dip switches inside the vertical TAFM, at least one is for buffered, what are the other 2?

oh, and just a general buffer question, is a true bypass pedal thats ON the same as a buffer? (in terms of it affecting the sound if before the fuzz)
i'm thinking of something clean, like an eq or compressor

I don't know the positions off hand but there are 2 combinations of the 3 switches to be used for buffered and not buffered. That's all they do. IIRC the combinations are printed on the PCB.

The buffer is only in the circuit when the pedal is on - it is still true bypass. The reason it is there is so the fuzz behaves the same regardless of what is ahead of it.

ah, i see now, its like hunting for clues about buried treasure ... 1 up, 2/3 down for unbuffered and vice versa
thanks

about the buffer i meant in regards to the pedal/s in front of the fuzz, if they are ON are they going to have the same effect as a buffer?
if the fuzz behaves like A without a buffer in front, and like B with a buffer, if it has a true bypass pedal in front of it switched ON, will it behave like A or like B?

it depends on the pedal you're preceding it with but for the most part it will behave more like B.
in general with the buffer OFF - the fuzz is a little more open, dynamic and dark and the clean blend is VERY dark.
in general with the buffer ON - the fuzz is more compressed, aggressive and bright and the clean blend is more transparent.

that's how i ship them. i mainly left the switch in there for users who had older TAFMs and dug that sound.

I have a v3 TAFM...are the dip switches the equivalent of the trimpots in mine or are there still trims in the current models?

Brian, do you know happens if you put the dip switches in a combination they're "not supposed to be in"?
