Where should I start with Brian Eno?
So, I was just listening to a lot music that I remember hearing on TV when I was younger(Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Jewel,
). Then I was listening to Never Falling Down by Living Legends, and one of the comments said Brian Eno By This River (what it's sampled from). Well, cool song. Been meaning to get into Brian Eno for a while, especially since I like ambient music. Cool story, right?

I'm glad you made this thread, I've been wondering where to start myself

This's the the Eno track that's been getting the most spins from me lately:

Also:
Ambient 1: Music for Airports
(No Pussyfooting) - Fripp & Eno
Evening Star - Fripp & Eno
Also, not ambient, but I love:
Here Come the Warm Jets
Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)
My Life in the Bush of Ghosts - with David Byrne

Music for airports is where to start I reckon.
Then buy Vangelis' Bladerunner soundtrack and throw the Eno in the bin.

i really like Eno's pop albums - Here Come the Warm Jets, Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy, Before and After Science, and Another Green World.
The songs are catchy, the production is always interesting, and there are some great moments of gnarly fuzz guitar courtesy of Phil Manzanera & Robert Fripp.

BUT of ENO's more ambient stuff, i think my favorite is Evening Star by Fripp & Eno. there's a bit more going on than in Discreet Music & Music for Airports, but it's still very textural.

I love both but definitely wouldn't compare them.Chankgeez wrote:To my ears, they're very different.gusman2x wrote:Music for airports is where to start I reckon.

Eno's ambient music is genius to me just by how he can repeat the same thing a thousand times over and still keep you entranced through so many subtle variations in texture and whatnot.
EDIT: by the way, nice Grand Ulena avatar voerking, didn't come across them til last year but really love the music.

Yeah, fair point. I guess i listen to them when i'm in a similar mood, when wanting some relaxed instrumental music. Similar to the paris texas ost, but very different musically i suppose.backwardsvoyager wrote:I love both but definitely wouldn't compare them.Chankgeez wrote:To my ears, they're very different.gusman2x wrote:Music for airports is where to start I reckon.

Here Come the Warm Jets is incredible. I'd always associated Eno with ambient, so HCtWJ totally caught me off guard when I first heard it.

Before and after science. The b side is so good.
Beautiful more "pop" stuff. I have always loved it when he writes songs.
