In What Do You Live / How Much For Rent?

Post by CBA »

Hiiiiiiii.

I think there have been a few threads on this, but let's have a fresh one!

Do you live in an apartment or a house or what? How much do you pay for rent?

I'm more interested in what single white males with pretty good jobs are doing... no offense to you POOR ASIAN WOMEN.

I've lived in the same apartment (an efficiency above a garage) for the last 5 1/2 years. I like it here... it's my "home". But I also feel like it's time to find something else... like, I'll be 31 in July, and I often think "Hmm I wonder where I'll live one day!" But like "one day" is NOW, so let's see what we can do. I pay $650 for everything... heat, coldness, water, electricity, internet. The one problem I've found lately is that my landlady and neighbor are starting to get amazingly intolerant with noise... keep that guitar quiet, keep those drums unplayed, etc. My friends live in a house three blocks away and we have a huge practice space there in an old stony basement which is often accessible... just not convenient for me and my recording equipment.

Do I buy a house? Do I get a bigger apartment with fewer neighbors? Do I find a rehearsal space? Do I get the sweet loft for $925 a month?

What do you do?

Own a house. 1650 sq ft. If I lumped everything in (utilities, cable, insurance, etc) it would be close to $1500 a month.

I can play in there at all hours of the night. Rattling shit with the bass blasting. Jet Jaguar can do a full member practice at decent hours in the middle of the house and be fine. I've never tried band practice after decent hours.

My own house. Our mortgage is about 1300, but then add in 350 bucks a month for property taxes. If you include utilities and homeowners insurance, we're probably around 2 grand. Unfortunately, we bought in 2008, right at the height of the boom before everything collapsed. Already re-financed once.

DC has one of the most expensive rental markets in the country (after SF, NYC and Hawaii) and it shows: Studio + parking is 1840 a month. We chose to look in a nice neighborhood where we can both walk to work and our building has a gym which saves us some money. Utilities are extra. Can't play all that loud, but I have pretty sensitive ears so I'm fine with it.

i live in an apt in a split up house of 4 units. i pay $625/month and have to pay my own electric and internet. i've been blessed so far with some pretty chill neighbors, and i dont try to be a dick about playing loud and/or late at night. i've always just given them my cell phone number and told them to text me if its ever too loud. has worked good so far.

Apartment. I move in two weeks to a 900 sqft 1bdr one bath, it'll be about $800 a month. I don't even keep my big amp here in the apartment, I usually keep it at the rehearsal space or my parents', which is about 20min away.

I own here in EUG / 900 sq Ft/ $1250/ month - practice space is an extra room off the garage - only bothered the neighbors once. Some tool from 3 houses down was screaming - i walked out with my dB meter - we shut him up really quick. It was 6PM on Friday for fuck sake!

It's wacky here in teh EUG, rent is about $1100 for the same amount of house....strange....

I also have a rental in STL that i rent for $815/month - 900 sq ft (not including the basement sq footage!) - There i could play at all hours of the day - not one complaint in the 10 years i was there. That basement just sucks up the sound. Had a lot more space too...but here is not there, which is a good thing!

This is the same for me. Only 200 sq ft less. In multnoma county is the highest taxed county in Oregon.

Still, I like my home. Work my ass of for it.

I lived with 5 other guys for about 3 years in a rent house. $287.50 per month, 5 bed 2 bath. It was glorious. I miss it terribly.
