Re: What's more in demand?
Having played in several bands over fifteen years, I'd say without a doubt that a good drummer can be difficult to be find.
Help them set up and pack away their kit. Tell them nice things about their hair. Guard them jealously from the vulture-like attentions of other bands.
Here in Perth, it's not unheard of for talented drummers to actually play in several bands.
No disrespect intended to bassists; Great bassists are awesome too. It's just that if your band's in a pinch, a guitarist can fill in for them, simply following the song's root notes.

Definitely drummers. People are always pissed to find out that my band has two. But, I've known both for over six years, and for good reason (not just because they're both some of my best friends, but because they're also very excellent drummers).

Re: What's more in demand?
let me put it this way. bands without bassists, such as Neu! or the White Stripes, aren't thick on the ground but do occur. you seldom if ever see a band without a drummer unless they're working the far reaches of experimental music. ergo, a drummer is more fundamental. people want a beat, full stop. on the other hand, a really good, creative bassist who listens is like finding gold lying on the ground. a good bass player can make or break a band, and they're HARD to find. but a bad drummer is the hardest thing to hide...you've got to have a drummer who's at least competent or you're fucked.

I am a drummer and I jam with a bassist. So I guess a guitarist is in demand...
But I guess more ppl need drummers.

Re: What's more in demand?
I've sported bands with multiple bass players for over a decade and a sauna club for fellow bassists. BUT unlike bassists, I've never had too much drummers around to step in when the drummer fall sick in critical times or something.

I'm playing drums in a brass band and in a marching band. And drums/guitar when jamming with my bassist friend guy. Srsly drummers are in serious demand. And the post above is totally true. Bonus points if you bring beer.

Re: What's more in demand?
I think the reason drummers are so rare is because the starting price point is higher most times, as you can get a beginner guitar/amp set up for $100 where as a full drum set is $500 and to kids thats a big deal, a lot of drummers start in their mid-late teens but even so it's harder to practice unless you have very nice parents who are excited to hear the ruckus.

Drummers. There seems to be a drought in my city for them. That said a good bass player is pretty tough to find too, I mean there's plenty of guys that can play competently but not many that have there own sound going on.

It's certainly easier to get work as a bassist than a guitarist, but finding a good drummer is like looking for a diamond in a pile of shit.

My brother is the only even competent drummer I know, it's tough to find drummers in New York, it's VERY tough to find places to practice without yer neighbor coming upstarts and bitching about how he wants to watch football in peace

Re: What's more in demand?
Yea maybe bass has never been a factor for me because I have known my bassist since I was 4 and we started playing music together and it's just kind of one of those things where we know we are stuck playing music together. Plus I would be a moron to dump him because he one of the best bassists I have seen play. Plus he owns a bass that was used for Mushroomhead....MUSHROOMHEAD GUYZ
