LGBT?

Post by coldbrightsunlight »

So often I read things like this:
apps.facebook.com/theguardian/society/2011/nov/10/school-hard-place-gay-bullying

And I really hate to read them. It hurts me that in today's world we can have all this room for communication and still so little support for LGBT people, and I was wondering how our community is composed.

You hear people say things like " I'm ok with it as long as it's not around me" and I'm not sure I'm cool with that, and I don't see why that division is necessary, why it makes a difference to what you think.

Personally I identify as Bi, and I don't see any reason why a person's opinion of someone else should change based on their sexuality.

/personal shit starts

I've felt this way for a while and I've never "come out" to my parents (I have to a lot of my friends) (I think my mum would be cool with it and my dad would be freaked but sort it out after a while), so I often wonder about how that would go. The conclusion I always come to is that there's no reason to tell them how things are going, because until/if I get a long term boyfriend there's no need to inform them that I'm not "straight". The implication of straightness is very pervasive, and it really affects how I view myself, which makes my own feelings very confusing. :idk:

I'unno.
If you're a cool person then you're cool with me. I identify myself as pretty straight, but I never feel particularly bothered by any differing views on sex/people's orientation. As long as we aren't discussing like...the best foods to eat to make your poop taste better. Or like....poop and bestiality. Or midgets pooping on horses.

...or something...

then, you know, whatever :idk:

Same, except one of my gay friends asked me out once. I forget what I said, but I'm not gay so, needless to say we didn't end up going out. But we are still cool. Since just like on ILF the only real rule in life is "don't be dick." That is all I ask from people.

Yeah, I had to deal with a lot of ignorant people back when I came out in high school and was angry about it for a long time, but eventually I realized that there are always going to be ignorant people and that I'd rather not let people like that have such a huge bearing on my general state of being. More often than not the amount of cool and understanding people you meet will outweigh the dickheads...errr...assholes...uhhh...jerks.

Meh, I'm straight, but whatever the fuck you want to do, go for it. Its none of my business if you are straight or homosexual unless we are in bed together IMO.

I picked "B", but I kinda hate identifying as bisexual. I'm not sure why, even though it's correct. I usually just tell people that I don't really pay attention to gender. I'd usually rather identify as "Gay", but that's sorta just incorrect...

Growing up in a Christian school was really devastating. It's scary the false realities a person can make up, and how easily the thought of suicide comes up when you want so desperately to not be like you are. I wish there was a way for people to feel it for themselves-- then they wouldn't take it quite so lightly. (And that applies to more than just gay people)

It's particularly heartbreaking for me around this time (the holidays). Being around my family when they say things like "we knew how to keep our homos in the closet."

I'm optimistic, though. It's getting better.

I'm straight, but I don't mind gay/lesbian/bisexual people one bit. I do, however, have a problem with.......how do I say this without offending anyone? I can't stand "flaming" homosexuals, flaming is a bad term, but it's the only way I can describe it. I don't like the people who go out and flaunt their sexuality, it's just not appropriate, regardless of sexual orientation. Take the Pride Parade for instance, I'm totally supportive of people being openly gay, but seeing grown men grinding half naked with eachother in full view of the public, including children, is just wrong. That's the way I see it. Singleing out homosexuals is one of my biggest piss offs, everyone deserves their privacy. Fucking narrow minded pricks they are.

I don't understand anyone judging a person based on their sexual preferences.

just so if someone calls you a dick, you aren't alone.

if i was in a public place dry humping the fuck out of a half naked girl, its not appropriate.

I also have a problem, a huge problem, with the people that go out of their way to tell you "did you know i have gay friends? like 4 of them. do you have any gay friends? oh, you don't? you're a gay hater then, aren't you?"

Just let people be people, I say, who cares who someone wants to be with?

I know how you feel, but then I tell them that the uncle I see the most is gay. That normally shuts them up.

Yeah, it makes me feel like a dick for some reason, I don't know why, maybe the 'depraved bisexual' stereotype, maybe something else, but I rarely feel comfortable saying it.

I basically agree with you here, except how 'straightnesss' is ALWAYS assumed, and all straight people constantly assert how straight they are. "Have I mentioned I'm not homosexual today?" A lot people go on about how some gay people make a big deal about their sexualtiy but 's nothing compared to how all straight people are so straight all the time.

I'm straight. married and have a kid. I have zero problem with LGBT people, with their lifestyle, with flaunting or pride parades, or whatever. Fuck it, make out in front of me, it's all good with me.

Yes, LGBT people have it rough, especially when they are younger (i.e., before college).

I traveled in two very different circles in high school. I was on the football team, so I was in that whole dumb jock circle, but I was also in a band and was dated a bi girl for over a year, and all of her friends were gay with capital letters, so I traveled in that circle too. And weirdly enough, the gay circle was just as pissy and dismissive of me as the jocks were, for not dissociating myself with the other circle. That always struck me as really weird. Gay people can be close-minded and clique-y too, I guess. :idk:

I voted L. I'm a male lesbian, and have been for as long as I can remember.

I don't have a problem with anyone's sexual orientation, just as long (like most things) as it doesn't cause physical harm to people and their sexual preference isn't little kids.

It blows my mind that people get upset over one's sexual orientation, but whatever. Haters wanna hate. Lovers wanna love. I don't even want, none of the above.

I want to piss on you.

yeah, im p much in agreement with BC. like 99.99% straight cept for a certain male aesthetic or w/e. people who fit TOO well into cultural/sexual stereotypes on either end of the spectrum are annoying as hell, but i think people tend to gravitate more towards flaming gay dudes and butch SCUM manifesto style lesbians just because we're so used to bros and blonde bimbos that it doesn't bother us anymore unless its literally THRUST in our faces, a la The Jersey Shore.

anyways as rad as it is that ILF (apparently) is super kosher with everything, the rest of the world isn't and that kinda sucks. particularly the transgender community which is often derided by even the likes of Dan Savage (the "it gets better" guy), at least according to my friends. which sucks in particular because that segment is sorta... lagging behind a lot in public acceptance and hell, even public understanding. and due to being a small-ass minority no one seems to bother to listen. like i have a friend who was born in Ohio but can't legally change her birth certificate or whatever because of some shitty-ass law that people don't care about enough to change.
