Going to NYC tomorrow...

Post by starcastic »

My girlfriend and I will be in New York for the next few days and I'm finally going to have an opportunity to check out some guitar shops! :joy:

Any recommendations?

Ludlow Guitars has an excellent selection of ILF builders. 30th street Guitars has a wall of cool vintage guitars. Rudy's has cool vintage guitars in glass cases that you are not allowed to touch.

Those all look like cool spots! I'm hoping to come across something vintage and relatively cheap, but ridiculously awesome.

If you don't mind a short trip, prymaxe in NJ is worth a visit...pedal heaven :!!!:

It's about 20miles from NYC though.

I would LOVE to visit Prymaxe! Those dudes are the raddest of rad. However, neither my girlfriend nor I drive. So anywhere we go has to be within reach by subway. But maybe I'll get to go when I'm on tour this summer!

It's actually easily reachable by public transit (40-50 minutes out of NYC by bus.) PM me if you'd like directions. I actually live a few blocks from Prymaxe Vintage.

Seconding Main Drag and Ludlow for sure. Great shops. Main Drag is probably my favorite in the city. There's also a great little out of the way place in Greenpoint called Pentatonic that has some treasures.

If you go to Main Drag and/or Pentatonic, there's also a shop in Williamsburg called South Side that has all kinds of amazing stuff, but priced accordingly and priced for NYC.

In the East Village there's also Rivington Guitars and East Village Music. Lots of cool stuff but a bit pricey in my opinion. Another cool spot in the East Village is Keshav Music Imports which has all kinds of Indian instruments and electronic Indian drum machines, etc. Pretty cool.

New York Craigslist is also full of goodies...
