Songs that inspired purchases

Post by snipelfritz »

So did anybody else have a point where one specific song inspired them to buy a certain effect?

I remember I just had to go buy my first wah when I heard Tales of Brave Ulysses by Cream.

Definitely when I got the Smashing Pumpkins Vieuphoria VHS in like 7th grade and saw the "Slunk" live performance. Immediately afterwards I BEGGED my parents for a wah and a fuzz. Rocked that shit through my 20 watt Crate.

Radiohead's Exit Music for a Film made me want a Chunky Cheese (well a Big Cheese was used on the track [bass guitar], but those are seemingly rare and expensive,...the CC is a good facsimile).

i own Yamaha SPX90 and Alesis MidiVerb II rackmount reverb/delay units which i bought specifically because their backwards reverbs are used on My Bloody Valentine songs. the Yamaha's reverse Early Reflection setting is all over the You Made Me Realise EP--you can hear the clatter of the reflections when the room size setting is maxed at the beginning of "Slow"--and the MidiVerb's swirling, soupy Bloom patches supply crucial atmosphere to parts of Loveless and its associated EPs.

I don't understand the technology, but I know exactly what you're talking about.
