I feel like a cunt for not mentioning Dark Castle. Saw them with Yob on the last tour they did together and it was an amazing show. Dark Castle fucking ruled.

Does not compute. Ufomammut are OG's.
indeed. perhaps a more organic? approach. i feel like i get further down into the abyss with the dark Buddha.
the entire discog of ufomammut definitely feels like youre in a crazy machine when on acid. it's also interesting to note the drummer's improvement over the years, if i may be so bold. i love these guys.
Listen to Monarch! The omens album is quitw exceptional and more accessible than the other albums for new doom enthusiasts. Also, Aldebaran's Buried Beneath Aeons is damn fine. I would call it their "Book of Kings*".
* The Book of Kings is Mournful Congregation's latest release and absolute masterpiece of what Funeral Doom represents.
not really "doom", but in my book a classic record with prominent doom elements. sitting somewhere between between doom and stoner. i always thought their writing and arrangements were more sophisticated than many of the other bands covering the same territory.
Church of Misery. definitely some old school doom in what they do but with a focus on grooves (and serial killers). this is great record that flows wonderfully. that intro to Killifornia with that filthy wah-ed bassline is worth the price of entry alone!

Re-drummer: it's not like the he's the dude from Pelican but he's definitely gotten a lot more adventurous.
Not that there's anything wrong with the drummer from Pelican, per say.
Ufommamut never really struck me as "doom". they always reminded me more of prog and space rock, especially 70s italian soundtrack bands like Goblin and Floyd's droning space rock on Ummagumma or Interstellar Overdrive. maybe their massive riffs drew in alot of doom fans but to me, i think they have alot more in common with bands like this (coincidentally also italian) or Zombi than most doom bands:

That song is rad. I can see where you're coming from.
And I think that I'd rather turn someone on to UFOMammut if they were looking for "more doom" doom than most of the more traditional stuff. Church of Misery is a clutch repeat/addition to the thread though.
