Do these Texas-influenced Albertans wear Cowboy hats but say "about" "aboot." Or do they have some Canadian hick accent?WayToHip wrote:^Texas mostly; Texans came here when we found oil and told the people here to stop drinking tea and playing polo and to drink coffee and ride bulls. Really really.

^^Edit: Yeah, Alberta is great, Mountains to the west, vast prairies everywhere south and Taiga in the north. No big lakes or rivers here, so that sucks.
HAHAHA, I have a "Texan/Western" accent to people from Ontario, who say "aboot". Baseball caps are the main hat around here, but old farmers/Hutterites/Mennonites wear their Stetsons everywhere. No shit, when I first heard "aboot" it was a year ago and I spit out my beer; I thought the guy was fucking with us.Faldoe wrote:Do these Texas-influenced Albertans wear Cowboy hats but say "about" "aboot." The only time I have ever actually heard someone actually say aboot was from a very irritating border guard...WayToHip wrote:^^Edit: Yeah, Alberta is great, Mountains to the west, vast prairies everywhere south and Taiga in the north. No big lakes or rivers here, so that sucks.

I'm in NW Ontario. I never got the "aboot" thing.
I've never heard anyone say that seriously. Some people say it kinda like "abeout" but there's no "oo" sound, and it's still not common. There's a Newfie accent, and a french accent, and there's people like Rick Mercer that say "car" like "ker". I don't know where that comes from. We do say "eh" though.

I'm happy but not necessarily hopeful with Trudeau - I voted for him, but it's that whole lesser evil bullshit that's been mentioned already. Have to wait and see.
