Classic screamo tone is SG into JCM800, maybe with a rat. Unless we're talking about early 00's euro clean guitar screamo but why would you want to talk about that garbage?
That "garbage" is anything but. Euroskramz FTW
+1 on the SG. An SG Special has been the go-to "fuck shit up" guitar since Pete Townshend was using them. Quite a few cool things. Very easy to make noise and bend notes or chords just by pushing and pulling on the neck. Can access every single fret. There are 24 on the Special. Can do single coil and humbucker sounds via push/pull knobs. Etc. Is a keeper.

I wish I didn't break my last good SG on tour a couple years back. I've had one or two others since but they just felt so weird in comparison. That first one was a true murder machine, though. It was a faded so it resonated way more than any nitro finished SG and used that to my advantage.

Tele and SG are not totally dissimilar guitars.

SG special + p90's = win. Love those older faded's as well. Sold mine stupidly awhile back, regretted it for along time until finding a deal on my "flip flop" sg special. Slapped some pig 90's in that beast and will never make the same mistake again.

I was joking about the euro stuff. Sort of. I never really liked that no distortion, everyone clap above their heads to this part in 6/8 stuff. I came in on the ground floor with bands like reversal of man and orchid and once it stopped being about a more out there way of doing hardcore punk it kinda lost me.
Anyway, hot single coils, low gain amp, distortion pedal.

I saw reversal of man at a house show in like 99 and they blew my mind. They set up their amps in a circle facing the drummer and kind of all played in a clump while the singer ran around all bat shit crazy. So fucking awesome.

Basically what we can all agree on with skramz is: play fucking loud, and fast. Go crazy. Gear doesn't matter. All my favorite screamo albums sound like shit. (As the Roots Undo, pg99, City of Caterpillar, etc)

When I played in a band that sounded a bit like this the guitarist played a Rickenbacker solid body into a Dean Marley combo amp.
I played a Rickenbacker 4003 into an SWR working man, 4x10 and a 1x15 I used a Boss ODB-3 too for heavy bits.
Sounded like this.

We weren't that heavy or anything like no orchid, a bit euro skramz.
Whenever we played with similar bands, nobody ever had the same shit. Everyone just kinda played anything
