Real Screamo gear

Post by seabrood »

My band is called JapaneseDeathPoems and we should like pretty chaotic and angry as hell like Joshua Fit For Battle. For the stuff we've been writing, I've been running my jazzmaster into a Rat 2, a small clone, and a hall of fame. I'm not exactly satisfied with the tone I've been getting, and I've been trying to get more atmospheric and pretty with the sounds. I'm adding an old peavey chorus into the chain, but i'm thinking about changing the dirt that I'm using. I have a pretty sterile solid state amp, and I'm pretty okay with the basis it has for pedals (although I don't really care for it's cleans without effects.) I have an OCD but it's not quite right. Any suggestions for an overdrive that can get super grindy and nasty while still having a cool tone? I'm feeling an old Boss HM-2

I run a JC 120 and use a Blackstar DistX for distortion - it cops that tubey tone. maybe something along those lines?

I used to play drums for a skramz band years ago here in TJ, both guitars dudes used nothing but delays and cranked Mig100 and JCM800 I think.

Now that I play guitar I'd use a Rat and RV3 into a clean amp.

Well if we're gonna be real here, To Bring Our Own End is definitely one of the better albums out of this time.

This is pretty much my rig for that sort of stuff. I've been thinking about adding a second rat one set for heavy grind, and the other set for overdrive. I've basically flipped all my other od's in favor of bending over and adjusting a few knobs on the rat when needed.

Personally I'd like a super grindy, harsh distorion like orchid or early converge

For early converge you need emg's> boss eq pedal> and an old tube head. Boss MT-2 also came into play at some point.

ohhhh hahah. I dunno, I dig em a lot. There are some incredible emo bands around here right now, and screamo is alive and so goddamn great. check out All My Wishes Were Thrown Down A Well And Should Die There, Flowers Taped to Pens, Nayru, and Recluse. All great people and incredible artists!

Well, I guess a Hiwatt-ish or Showman would be my ideal amp. I don't play nor thinking in playing that stuff anymore but a high wattage clean amp for me is the best I could do to play anything loud.

Name of the band is Walle (i know...), I think they are still playing and only 1 out of the 5 former members is still there.
