COT: Have anyone called you an guitar elitist?

yeah my opinion on this is being an elitist is nothing to do with the gear YOU have, there's nothing 'elitist' about getting the instruments you want, what matters is how you feel about people who use cheaper, "less good" equipment, and whether or not you're happy to jam out on whatever.

Well put, friend! I have a nice guitar, a nice bass, and a few nice pedals and some amps that are not "elitist worthy" but I love them. I don't care what anyone else in my band plays, as long as we can fucking make noise....

WHO I play music with is another story, I'm only interested in making noise with people on the same wavelength, in regards to a) creative energies and b) can I fucking drink a beer with you and it's not a goddamned chore? Also please don't be a junkie.... also if you don't drink it's fine but please be able to have a conversation like a normal civilized human being.....

Thankfully I do not have this problem the guys in my band fucking rule......

I wouldn't say elitist, no. I mean, I have a bass that I paid well over a thousand bucks for, but my main gigging amp cost me less than 300. I probably have somewhere around 4 grand worth of pedals, but my pedalboards are always a mix of super cheapie and super expensive. I have a Behringer pedal on the same board as a Strymon Mobius.

My thing is just that I almost always know exactly what sound I want, and I'm stupid picky about getting it exactly right. Sometimes that requires a 500 dollar pedal, sometime a 30 dollar pedal is perfect. I don't really care which it is, except that I obviously have to save up for a while or sell off a bunch of stuff if it's on the expensive side.

Teiscos, Silvertones, all but a few of the best of the lawsuit-era guitars (which were never *cheap*), 70s Strats and Norlin Gibsons, 80s and 90s DOD stuff.

Sometimes there's a damond in the rough, sure, and I like cheap guitars because I'm on a cripple's disability budget these days, but I am *not* paying $500 for what was barely worth it as a $50 guitar.

So to some that would make me an elitist I guess.

The only "Boutique" stuff I have are things that do things that nothing else does - otherwise I stick with what I know works. I was using Space Echoes and Jazz Choruses when nobody on earth wanted them, and don't see stopping, same with a bunch of my toys. I ams what I ams.

This thread is an interesting topic, but its still a bunch of BS at the same time. I feel like we're just re-affirming that we all don't give a fuck about who has the most expensive toys while we do have some cheapies and some spendies. I think I may have make myself look like a bit of asshole just because I told someone that they should need some vintage or boutique and it was some girl that acted smart with me. I am bit depressed right now because I didn't mean to be an asshole or anything, just was giving her some future advice for later on if she ever decided to change her pedalboard, just unwanted advice, that was bad on my part, I guess (It was nothing but brand new EHX and Boss gear, not that there's anything wrong with that, it just that I when I see someone who likes to play with effects and are close minded and not open to boutique or vintage stuff, they start all going that I'm a fucking elitist and shit.)

I can understand where someone might take it the wrong way, though. Here is the problem, women musicians tend to get a lot of " just being a helpful" advice at gigs and in stores and a lot of times by people that are actually not as big of a gear nerd and after a while get sick of it and who can blame them? also it's up to the individual to decide if their rig works for them… like my guitarist… to her 4 delay units is just enough… for now….

I'm not a tone snob. Hell, most of the sounds I like sound like garbage anyways. I will say that I buy and try to build gear that will last, whether it means it is expensive or not it needs to make my intentional and unintentional abuse from playing
