Like the thing about DGD is they're a total mess. They use so many sounds from the spectrum of music that might be considered "emo" music that it lacks a cohesive feel. Some songs are mostly lead guitar and sound like "real" screamo or melodic post-hardcore and others have totally conventional chord progressions and songwriting structures. The vocals are all over the map. Sometimes it sounds like they're shooting for Billboard 200 territory and other times the vocal production makes atmospheric black metal production look good. It's like they can play all these subgenres pretty well but forgot that maybe they should play one really well instead...
This having been said, when it works, it works. The song I mentioned, "Alex English," is a great example. It is more or less an Alexisonfire song TBH. But when you think it must be over, they add on this gorgeous clean outro part. All over the map but I like it

DGDs vocals are the fucking worst. Apart from that most of there stuff is kinda cool.. apart from "Happiness" what a huge steaming pile of shit.

I'll stop listening to Alexisonfire when I die or lose my hearing, whichever comes first.
Anyway, this article is a super good read and half-relevant to this thread
