Well to be fair I hate jews...

Wait what!?

Hey guys... guess what... if you wanna stop arguing... stop coming back to the thread to defend yourselves! Kinda missing how arguments work aren't ya... yeah i'm talking to you... and you! No pussy bitching about defending, want an argument dropped, ya stop.

And garner the overall opinion of a forum and don't be suprised when your argument will NEVER win, it's like throwing a turkey bone to a hound of hungry dogs and not expecting them to fight over it... to be honest, the fact you think you can argue this, is fairly ridiculous... either go away, or accept your views are your own and will never be shared and to share them isn't going to enlighten anyone, merely insult them and there intelligence as if they hadn't formed there own opinions and that there opinions are the 'wrong' ones.

I hear pedals are the new thing with guitars, any one else heard about these things, I hear from Z.Vex they can actually make you grow an extra set of fingers and that germanium melds with your D.N.A to make you some kind of 60s Super Funk God... and immune to aids cause it didn't exist then.

It's a tricky thing on forums where the primary subject matter is so narrowly focused. I assume you're all outrageous, drug-addicted, perverts. I should be right 2 out of 3 for everyone.

So you snort 5 grams of coke out of a midget hookers ear while wearing nothing but a thong and injecting heroin simultaneously in broad day light one time and suddenly you're a drug addicted pervert... you people.

I think what Dubkitty said is worth enough to end this (not that I'm the arbiter of discussion or anything).

I get where you're coming from, is the irony of it. Hell, I get offended a little at being called a leftist because I disagree with so much of that philosophy. I do, however, get put off by what I consider to be extreme rhetoric. I was a little disturbed by some of the racial stuff too. You may not believe those stereotypes apply to all members of a race or religion but when you bring it up in an unrelated discussion like this it can definitely come off in the wrong way.

you know, Scruffie, i could argue back at you in detail, but instead i'm simply going to say that i refuse to accept the premises of your post. i don't feel like getting caught in a recursive loop of "you can't defend yourself -> why are you still defending yourself?"

see, that's the problem, i think...when you have a forum with a large number of members but there are a small number of members who are very active and share particular views, passions, or whatever, they're self-reinforcing and inevitably tend to assume that everybody is just like them. this is never the case. i don't think it's ever wise or helpful to assume that any community is unanimous on a controversial topic. we just recently saw that there's e.g. a far wider range of views on abortion than i, figuring from typical vibe that the hive mind would be totally pro-abortion, expected to see. (BTW "hive mind" is not intended negatively, OK?)

extreme rhetoric is a problem for me, i freely admit. i have the verbal aggressiveness of a little guy who never got to punch people, and really doesn't believe in that sort of thing anyway.

Caesar wrote: I think the parents are douchebags, but your rhetoric forces a confrontation from people not in confrontation with you. In any reasoned debate, you have to understand you're audience. It's as clear as the balls on TroySanders chin.

pretty much this. not just in dubkitty's case, but in general. i started this thread because i thought all the different viewpoints on this subject were very interesting and i wanted to hear some more. i read most of the comments on that article, googled it and read some blogger opinions, etc. and even though i disagreed with a lot of the posts on the first few pages of this thread for many different reasons, it was still interesting to see where people were coming from. differing opinions are absolutely never a problem because they're an inevitable part of conversation. it's just kind of an issue when you have to frame them as an insult. it's just rude and dismissive. plus with these kind of issues, if you're going to change someone's opinion it's almost definitely not going to be through some words on a gear forum.

it's also an issue when people assume/imply that every person who disagrees with them is misinformed. i could say that everyone who doesn't see the total arbitrariness of gender roles has never read anything on social psychology, but what conversational use is that level of elitism? at that point it's no longer about ending what is perceived to be misinformation or even about sharing viewpoints. instead it becomes intellectual bullying.

i think this is another one of those 'touchy subjects' again, much to my surprise. i think people take personal offense with this because some perceive it directly 'attacks' their values, upbringing, parenting styles, politics, etc. awno. here is a picture that describes my current state of mind:
