Bicycles are way better for drunk driving. Also, where I'm from I figured out that it's a much smaller fine for drunk driving a bike on the sidewalk instead of the road because Highway Traffic Act doesn't apply.

Down here they charge you the same and you can still lose your license for being on a bike.

As for your constitution there, DoS, that sounds eerily familiar to the basic rights outlined in ours, except I believe responsibility is not even mentioned and the phrasing is all sandwiched in between passages like "drink harder, you fuckin poof!"

But you know, we don't have as many spare livers floating around so we gotta do something.

Yes, I still drink, but now I just live in a city where I can typically walk home/catch an inexpensive uber.

It's hard to quit because it's everywhere.

I'm 45 now. Sometimes I look back at my life, especially in my 20s, and think about what a fuck up I was and if I could go back, what would I change.

The answer to that invariably is my 'friends'.

I'm telling you from experience; look at the people you're hanging around and ask yourself if they have a positive or negative influence on your life. If the answer is negative (like it was with me), then stop hanging out with them and find some new friends. This will also give you some time to spend with yourself to find out who you are, and where you want to go in life. Driving wasted will only screw you when you get caught or hit someone.

I still wish that back in my 20s I had dumped all my partying, loser friends and girlfriends and spent every spare moment writing more and better songs in a band that I actually liked. I would have been playing music for a living instead of wishing that I could.

If you can't control your intake or behavior, you should quit drinking all together. Sounds to me like you have self-control issues. "I need counseling but I don't want to quit all together" = :poke:

You're clearly aware of how close you are to your drinking spiraling out of control, so why not quit cold turkey and revisit it in 8-12 months? I think you will have a better chance at mastering the balancing act after you've distanced yourself from it and started looking at your current state from a different, outside perspective.

Hey Space, I don't know any more about counselling than the next guy, but take care of yourself! Don't feel like shit anymore, right? You felt the shit, it motivated you, but now it's just gonna be unproductive. Not telling you how to feel, just advice. Just work on it. +1 to not driving to the bar. Also if you go out with friends... have a designated driver. It's an okay gig. The bar gives that person free non-alcoholic drinks usually if they mention it.

I care about you dude

Honestly, the less you drink = the less it takes to make you feel content and the more you drink = more you need to feel content.

I think drinking mostly stems from your habit. I haven't ever had a drinking problem, but personally speaking - i'll always keep it to 1-2 drinks in the evening, three at the maximum amount. Daytime drinking isn't the best idea, considering that it can still be in your system for around 10 hours. Even if you feel a little sober, it's too easy to misjudge how your perception has changed.

driving drunk I'm doing my thing....

hand on the wheel shouting out 'kings!'

next thing you know, taking this off ramp FAST, brother cause you know I got a sports car and I know this one.

Motherfuckers are stopped on the off-ramp with their lights off.

I rear-end them. we both go flying. Air bag goes off, gives me a concussion on top of my already drunken state, breaks my glasses which I desperately need to see, and throws my arm through the the left window giving me a wicked cut. Other people are ok. Cop shows up, I'm sloshed and concussed. Fail the sobriety tests miserably. Arrested.

Back to the station. Blow a 0.194, twice legal limit. Mandatory 3 days in rehab, car is totaled, license suspended for 6 months, 5k in lawyers fees, plus I had to pay for the "rehab" myself. Best case is that it only cost me $20k total.

DON'T FUCK WITH IT.

I haven't driven drunk in a long time. I can only think of a few times where I was DRUNK DRUNK as opposed to buzzed or coming down. On one of those occasions, I was discovered in this position, LONG after I had left whatever party I was at. Fortunately it was just a citizen who found me and not the fuzz.

I'm sorry but I'm just going to state my opinion as someone who used to drink and used to drink and drive a lot. You're a fucking asshole if you drink and drive. End of story. You need to get a cab, dd, or just drink at home. There is no excuse ever. I'm lucky I never killed anyone and yes I was in a horrible wreck because of drinking and driving. Luckily I did not die.

Also, quitting drinking is not as hard as you would think. I have not drank in 7 years and the reason I haven't is because I wanted to stop. If you want to stop, then you can. If you can't stop, well then you don't really want to that much do you? Go to rehab if you need to. I went for 21 days and it changed my life. I also did 4 years of visit a psychologist every single week. It worked. I also attended AA meetings and it worked because I worked the program. You just have to find the right group.

So basically, you can do anything if you put your mind to it. You have to want it though. If you don't, you're doomed to fail and repeat the same process over and over again. I've met many people in my life that were addicted to something or other and many of them just weren't ready to stop. When they were though, they were able to maintain it with help.

I appreciate it but like you said I don't really want to quit drinking. Im not an alcoholic any more than i was a drug or tobacco addict. My problem is controlling my behavior. I drink lots and never really have the impulse to go beyond a few drinks, but every so often I say fuck it and get absolutely plastered. I usually sleep it off in a hotel or go places I know stay open late enough that i can sober up...but like i said every once in a while i make the decision that I'm getting annihilated and this time i just said fuck it and drove home.

I think the suggestions to talk to a counselor or someone who specializes in abuse and destructive behavior are really what i need. I need to learn to set lines that i don't cross and hold myself accountable.
