I'd also suggest finding a drug/alcohol counselor or better yet psychologist.

+1

My new wife has been sober for almost 5 years and I have been sober for most of my adult life (my addiction was sugar and pussy :D)
Having the will power to quit any substance is hard difficult and sometimes a life long process. If you talked too my wife about drinking she would say that she is still and addict and will be for the rest of her life. When I first heard that it made a profound impact on me. I would say that I am her sponsor now and when times are hard/stressed I am there to be her support when she wants too drink.

Seek out your friends both in real life and on the internet. I don't care if they are people who you may never see in physical forum, a friendship is all about communication. We are lucky enough to have built a community of VERY cool people here from all different walks of life with a common love of music.

If you have the determination to go the distance and clean up you are going to do it. However use any means of support and help from your friends too help you get there. Makes the journey that easier.

I had to stop for the first time in seven straight years recently due to wisdom tooth extraction. worrying before the fact will only make a mountan out of a molehill. i was concerned, and i found it okay. smoke when you have your shit for the day done, if you want. be the boss of yourself.

and that is after seven years of almost all day. every day. just get used to the feeling of sobriety rather than that fuzzy feeling behind the eyes. normality ain't that bad.

+1 here for sure, and the exercise, sex as well.

smoking a little tree CAN be a good thing, but if u need to cut it all the way out to get where u want in your life then thats what u gotta do. knowing/learing about yourself is very important.

i've had to quit/slow down a few times in my life. some just because i wanted to, and some for legal (damn u vermont!) or job searching reasons, but i came to the conclusion that i actually enjoy smoking less because i actually get high and have fun when i do. i was super super heavy for many MANY years of non stop chiefing, and after i came out of the cloud, i realized that i wasn't actually getting high that whole time. just kind of this weird in limbo state. kind of a waste of money, time, weed, etc. so when i cut back, i never looked back. now i can smoke a little and get super blazed and thats that, i like to refer to it as "old school high" like how it was when u first started.

also, reading this thread kinda makes it sound like we're all talking about a crack smoking addiction and not trees.......just remember THERE JUST TREES u can do whatever u want! and i'm pretty sure the world isn't going to run out of weed anytime soon so its not like u cant pack a nug again somewhere down the road if u choose to do so

i just came here to say that drugs and these things similar to them are fun only until they're not... once it stops being fun, it can go straight downhill

i'd say go for it, absolutely

as been said - move around, be with your friends, keep yourself very busy and talk to someone who's close to you about it

LOL!

Bob is unfortunately wrong though. I have met many people who are hopelessly addicted to pot just like any other drug.

I honestly don't know how anyone can call pot anything but a drug. If it affects your mind state, then it is a drug. Caffeine, cigarettes, etc. They can be considered drugs.

Plus people have addictions to all sorts of shit. Addiction doesn't have to be limited to shit that kills you from use.

To echo this a little bit... Delta is right on. It is a lot of fun. There are adjustments, and some are easier then others. But not worrying about the cop behind you is priceless. There is more money, and more expierences that you'll be not only be able to remember, but actually feel. It's good times this sobriety. Good times. :)

Sorry but he isn't wrong, low willpower =/= addiction. Also, it has been proven that pot is not physically addictive.
You'll be more addicted to coffee and cigarettes than to pot.

Well sure. People can be addicted to washing their hands, or jerking off. But not all addictions are the same. Marijuana is not a physiologically addictive drug (like say heroin is), because it doesn't cause physically harmful symptoms when you stop. However, people can certainly become psychologically addicted to it (or most anything else), and the mind has a tremendous ability to cause all sorts of psychosomatic symptoms, which can certainly make you feel sick and awful. I agree that is certainly is a drug, but I wouldn't put it in the same class as the narcotics, cocaine and some of the amphetamines, which ARE physiologically addictive and can have quite severe withdrawals.

I have the same problem with cigarettes. One thing you should do is take a look at how much it afffects you financially. I bought a carton a week or so ago and now I'm almost done, and I'm still feeling the financial strain from it. And it didn't do anything for me other than hurt me.
And yeah bcbc is completely right. I don't underestimate buds addictive qualities but it's on a different level than other shit.

The scary thing is the rate at which it keeps progressing. It develops mostly completely unregulated, due to the stigma associated with it. Dudes is cross-breeding and genetic engineering and crazy things. And kids going out buying don't know the hands it's passed through usually. It's scary business.

I don't want it out of my life completely forever. But I don't feel like I've got the willpower to taper off of it. I had been reducing, so it shouldn't be AS bad.

All that you can get in this area is super-potent. There's no market for anything less. I mean, if I went through all the denial stages of it becoming a problem, makes me wonder how many more there are out there, potentially NOT knowing what they're doing to themselves.

I think what it was is that I was afraid to admit that I let something control me. Sneaky bastard, you.

That's why I don't like to smoke in every single situation, I feel like I lose control easily.
If you still want it in your life, plan on smoking in advance. If you have extremely strong urges wait a week and smoke when you have time to yourself, so that you don't just cave in instantly. The having time to yourself thing is important, because the process will be much harder if you're still used to performing daily responsibilites while high.... I feel like the fact that you can be potentially 100% functional while high makes it much more habit-forming.

I get hyperfunctional, but my sense of prioritizing things vanishes and I become a creature of self-indulgence. Though that often that consisted of going on long walks or writing/playing music.

Just drop it, dude.

I know there's a lot of pro pot people on here but, c'mon, really....you're better without it. I mean....occasionally, fuck yeah. Go for it. But if you're toking every day, it's time for a change. People can bring up studies by pro pot groups all they want, but don't be a idiot. Anyone can look around at their friends that do it and friends that don't and see where they should go. And yeah, we all that friend that it doesn't drag down because they can compartmentalize it so spare the anecdotes. The majority of the potheads you know do not have awesome stories like that guy. I work with addicts so I see this shit all day long. Just fucking drop the shit. After a month you'll see why.

That's the end of my rant. I'll let people do whatever and never bring it up, again. But as someone with a lot of experience with addictions with my life and having this be my career, the best thing I can tell you is try to drop it on your own or get help if you can't. Ignore the douchecanoes who tell you otherwise.
