I usually fry things in a small-ish cast iron skillet filled with oil just enough for the stuff to submerge. It works well for flat things, but, yeah, I should really get one of them dutch ovens. I've found most of the time more traditional cookware works better anyways. But deep fry, so I haven't had any experience there.
And a thermometer. I don't own any kitchen thermometers...
Hahaha... fire extinguisher... that's cute.
But, seriously. Fuck yeah, fried okra!

Dude I have an instant read,...a digital probe thermometer that I use for roasting (basically so I don't overcook turkeys at Thanksgiving and Christmas),...and a candy thermometer for frying.
Considering you are a veggo (IIRC),...you probably don't have to worry about poisoning yourself with underdone poultry.

I mainly put that in there so that some of our less than intelligent ILFers don't hold me responsible if they burn their house down. Consider it fair warning.

Used for slow cooking and keeping Velveta Cheese Rotelle Tomato Dip warm and Dippy.

I just don't see a crock pot getting hot enough to fry with out getting your foods all greasy.
Maybe I'm wrong,...I've used a crock pot probably 4 times in my life.
