And you are on which side of the debate?
The only time I listen to Hot Cross is when I see a reference to them, think "well, are they really that unexciting?" and then put them on for 2-3 minutes before turning that shit off and finding something I actually want to listen to.
Same with Saetia and pretty much every band in this thread, actually. I know Skip and dase and BoatRich love some of this shit but I treat that as loveable quirks in otherwise very good people.

Or Fugazi. or Minor Threat. or Lungfish. or Q and not U.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love all that shit. NoU is just made for me.

Dude the first time I read that manga it fucked me up. I can definitely see your argument in regards to Nation of Ulysses though. Rites of Spring is just the Dischord band that struck the biggest chord with me and they're way underrated.

I think you mean Risk Revival? It is okay, I like it! Some of the songs must kill live. But they added some metal-ish parts in some songs that are meh. And there are also some vocals that don't quite fit...? I feel like Hot Cross in general had a lot to say and made some great records, but were better at making music, than they were at composing or writing songs. Some of the songs feel like the band members all wrote their parts separately based on a chord progression and then just slapped 'em together

You think so?
I think they're actually kinda overrated? Or... just accurately rated, anyway
Don't misunderstand: I love RoS beyond words, I even considered getting a tattoo of the
End on End art once.
But A LOT of people love them that much.
I think emo kids (of all shades and eras) respect RoS as much as doo)))mers respect Sabbath
Underrated in the indie rock world, but pretty much fanboi'd throughout the punk world
You even see people that listen to Minor Threat, RoS, and Fugazi without listening to other stuff from a little further down the road like Moss Icon, etc.
But I digress

More accurately, as someone who lives in DC and is heavy into punk, skramz, and hardcore, I would think literally everyone would cite them as an influence. However, most of the kids I know on this scene either don't know them or only know of them and it bums me out. I'm also a huge obsessive nerd though so maybe it's more just not as over the top as I think it should be.. Who knows

I grew up in Eastern Canada (like east of Montreal), so the big guns on the scene, in terms of influence, are very different than in the US. Alexisonfire, Protest the Hero, Billy Talent, Grade, basically any heavy Canadian band, because that's who toured here and who we moshed to

But all the musicians respected and knew Rites for sure
EDIT: Moneen, too, every scene kid in New Brunswick had a copy of
The Red Tree

All great bands for sure! I still listen to the first couple of PTH albums on a regular basis. Sequoia Throne has one of my favorite riffs of all time

If you want to talk about underrated, the whole
Kezia album. The fact that they recorded that in high school. They were all under 17. It's the sort of thing that is simultaneously so inspiring... and yet ultimately makes you want to just give up and resign yourself to your blooze lawyer future LOL. Conceptually and technically, a masterpiece IMO
But barely known outside Canada! Same as the first Billy Talent album. They have never found US success and TBH they're past their prime now but Ian was really doing something different on guitar. His chords are HIS chords. You know a Billy Talent song from a mile away
I saw them Protest in 2007 and the whole room was a mosh pit... until you pushed through to the band. I watched the whole show sitting on one of their amps. It was like the eye of the hurricane
Fun fact: every time someone asks me to pop the trunk of a car, I think of "Drop the gun" from "Blindfolds Aside," and start singing "POP THE TRUNK! POP THE TRUNK! POP THE-EEEE TRU-UH-UH-UUUNK!" lol

I think Rites of Spring are a band, especially before Youtube became a music library, that many more people had heard of than had the opportunity to actually hear.

That is a very apt point.
As far as Kezia goes, that album is gorgeous and I wasn't aware that they did it in high school. That's definitely impressive as fuck. Blindfolds Aside is so damn mosh worthy too

Moshworthy would be a good name for a metal news site.
Like Upworthy LOL
