You are probably right there. I was really just raising the point that anything that starts as many wars as religion does cant be a good thing for society.

Yeah the idea upsets a lot of people but I think this thread needed some humor. But in all seriousness if people want to hang onto beliefs that are a few thousand years past it's use by date then good for them. If they believe all that shit that is written in the bible, then I have a large pointy tower in Paris for sale. If someone wants to use their religious beliefs to sell gear then I say let people buy it if that is what they want to do. What the fuck do I care in the end.

God help me (that wasn't intentional), I'm going to necrobump this thread, just to point out that there is a difference between a Christian company that exploits Christianity, or more likely their involvement in this-or-that megachurch, for personal gain, and a decent pedal company that happens to be run by a Christian, or even a company that is explicitly Christian, but does not exploit that for gain (this was stated in different words elsewhere in the thread).

From my interview with Hungry Robot pedals founder Eric Junge (see his remarks in context here):

With a fast-growing subset of the pedal market being comprised of worship leaders and guitarists, it would be quite convenient to make it abundantly clear that I am a fellow Christian operating a pedal company. However, since I started Hungry Robot Pedals, I have felt the conviction that using my faith as a marketing strategy would be exploiting my faith for my own personal profit.

Disclaimer, I am in no way making a blanket statement on Christian-run companies! Just a personal conviction. There are certainly some awesome, openly Christian companies out there that I whole-heartedly know aren’t using their faith in an exploiting manner.

Hungry Robot makes great shit, and I consider myself somewhat of an evangelist (intended) for their products.

So I would say that you should use this thread, if at all, with extreme caution. Many Christian pedal builders are aware of the reputation that their community has and are actively seeking to avoid the same lazy creative and business strategies. Bad business is bad business and good business is good business, and frankly, I add my voice to those were/are a little icked out.

See, I have a Hungry Robot pedal on my board, one in the mail, and plan on picking up his Black Friday offering, as well. I love his work and aesthetic. On the other hand, I unfollowed a builder who posts #worship on all of his pedal posts because it struck me as gross. I think we all have our limits when it comes to that tag. I don't buy overtly Satanic or any other orientation pedals, either. I want fun and mirthful, not serious reflections of faith.

I always wanted to make the most sweet overdrive that TGP would lust after but call if the Christ Nail Driver or something like that with the Passion of the Christ as the graphic or something offensive that would cause such conflict for perspective buyers. So immature yet so lol inducing for me. I love it.

This is a fuzzy distinction (not intentional).

Declaring your company to be explicitly Christian by itself is lame enough for me to take a pass, but if I did want to make this exploitation distinction how would I be able to tell? My problem is with using religion in the marketing in the first place, I don't need to wait for the exploitation shoe to drop. But if I did, how can you tell, what does that look like?

Edit: it should be pointed out that the builder you quote afterwards says it is exploitative to market as a Christian company. So if you agree with that, how do you arrive at a state of explicitly Christian?
