Question about adjusting bridge saddle?

I'm sure this should go in the music thread but I just need a fast answer. I got a squier telecaster at GC used because it came with a GC hard shell case that I wanted for my real fender strat. I'm lefty handed and it was only 108 bucks so I figured I would jump on it. I now have three electric guitars (Strat, Sheraton, and Squier Tele). I started playing slide guitar again and I want a guitar designated for slide. I ordered thick strings because I heard they are better for sustain and makes it easier to play with a slide. I ordered a package of telecaster/fender saddle allen wrench's so I can adjust the saddle (raise it) so that the strings are higher and makes it easier to play the slide.


Now the question I have................... Should I wait till I get the allen wrench so that I can adjust the saddle before I put on the strings? I wanted to throw the strings on the guitar tonight and see how much the 12's improved from the 10's, but I only ordered one new set of strings to test it out. I should have the allen wrench by next week and I don't have one that is small enough to fit, so I have to wait till I get these specific ones. I didn't know if I could just loosen the strings a good amount and then mess with the saddle while the strings are on the guitar. I actually thought this would be much easier because then I could tune up each string and see where it's at. If I need to lower it or raise it more I can and then test it again. I hope this makes since and if anyone has a quick answer to this let me know please. I'm itching to play some slide with some fuzz!

as long as you aren't going too drastic, you should be fine with putting the stings on to give it a whirl, then loosening a bit to mess with saddles.
