Like fifteen years or something here. I feel better not eating meat. It's great, and you'll find lots of options and stuff.
Biggest trick is to stop thinking of vegetables as side dishes and needing some kind of main thing to go with it. That took me a while but was a total 'oh yeah, duh' moment.
Wow dude. I'm so sorry! Had no idea of your suffering. That sucks.
See this is a good reason that you ought to stop eating meat. It sucks, but you'll feel better and get used to it. No problems. There's so many meat substitutes these days.
Let us know how you do!

Quinoa is good stuff, but you can do Rice + beans for the same nutritional value for way cheaper (unless you can't eat either for whatever reason)
Quinoa, tempeh, rice, falafal... so many great options! Tonight, I had spaghetti and meatless meatballs in vodka sauce with some vegan bread. It was delicious and super filling. I am very lucky that my girlfriend was a vegan for 10 years. She lapsed for a couple of months before we met, so I am not converting for her sake. It is very much a matter of getting my gout, weight, and health under control. The only way I have managed to even be functional today is a massive dose of Aleve, a bath with Epsom salt, and sleeping close to 12 hours.
My force of habit, I am an insect
I have to confess I'm proud as hell of that fact
I myself still eat meat but my girlfriend is vegetarian and I have a lot of vegan and vegetarian friends. Vegan is a little tougher than vegetarian but it's not completely difficult to transition.
+1 on the grilled/roasted veggies. There are tons of meat substitutes now. Some veggie burgers really suck but I know the chicken substitutes all pretty much taste the same as chicken to me. The veggie burgers where you can see the corn and peas and shit usually suck in my experience.
Fried tofu is great with a lot of things as well, but some places don't cook it well and that can kinda suck.
Good luck! Oh, and vegan pepperoni is weird and looks like red clay.
Make sure to get enough B12 as it helps your body absorb calcium. B12 comes from bacteria in the soil/dirt. The reason cow and other animal meats contain B12 is simply because they eat stuff from the ground. So either eat veggies that are not fucking sprayed and washed to be cleaner than your dinner plate, eat dirt, or get it from other places (vegemite, walnuts, algaes, pills).

Basically I gave my self a one ingredient un-processed snack rule, which means fruits veggies and nuts- i do feel way better eating like this
still eat meat at meals but trying not to make it the center of the dish
I think the american diet is way to meat-centric
I agree with, and follow this, nearly to the letter. I refer to myself as "mostly vegetarian" which really means I eat meat, just not every day. I don't think meat is The Devil, but it isn't a daily requirement either. Strictly for health reasons, seems to work great for me.
But what I really came in here to say is: LENTILS.

This is true, but I prefer the taste of quinoa. It's got a nice earthiness to it that hits the spot for me.
Oh, and LENTILS. So many great Indian and Mediterranean dishes...
