I think this says it all. Except I'd amend it to read:

Because, you know, it's always something.

I like my pedals like my guitars. All garage rocky. Like, something you might have found that doesn't quite sound 100% right but has a unique character of its own. All my gear is weird. Cabs fucked up and scrachted from touring. Amp looks like shit because I tried to take the tolex off it. Guitars are abominations of my creation or have weird scars from before I was born. Or have lame messages I carved in them when I was in my 15 year old emo phase. I like stuff that looks like it came from a pawn shop in Glendive, Montana, and has a sound that reflects that. Fuzz represents that feeling to me.

Also: shoegaze and/or Sonic Youth.
