I didn't expect so much sturm und drang over the return of Ms. Ever, just the excitement that I felt when she posted this on Facebook. I wouldn't be here if not for Devi, aware of boutique pedals, or playing with electronics. I was barely even playing guitar, just noodling on Rocksmith at the time. I had no inkling of the greater fuzzbox world. Through a review of the Shoegazer on 'When The Sun Hits,' I found my way to the boutique pedal world. I've made awesome friends here, rediscovered the instrument of guitar, and occupied tons of time constructively. Devi has been a friend to me throughout this time.

I guess what makes me sad is a lack of empathy. As someone who struggles with mental illness, I understand both the temptation to burn bridges and the desire to return to things that have brought you comfort or pleasure in the past. Seeing her come back to pedal-making makes perfect sense to me. It sucks that it hurts aen and Mrs. aen. No excuses, I hate to see them get fucked over. I wish there was a way for her to make pedals again AND not hurt the brand.

Devi could have contacted the folks at DE/DC and offered to license a "signature/creator series" which probably would have gone over better and not step on toes professionally or personally. The path Devi decided to take is just not cool.

To be fair to her, she did ask to build. But we didn't want the confusion and drama she brings with her, so we asked her to follow the contract she signed.

I also don't think that people lack empathy toward her. Many people have healthy boundaries when it comes to people with mental illness and that is ok. No one who has been hurt in the past owes her attention and mental illness doesn't give someone a pass to hurt others without repercussions.

My friend and I had a solid 3 month streak where we would sing that loudly the majority of the time (sometimes sober , but not really faceplam because that song rules)

Come on man, no need to be slighting us. First of all you know full well that a lot of us here have had similar experiences with mental illness and secondly I think you aren't doing the community justice, I think a lot of people understand why she would want to go back to making pedals it's just that it doesn't matter in the slightest. Devi knew what she signed and knew that by coming back she was going to cause other people harm and she did it anyway. That is, at the very best, totally selfish. I've never been burned by Devi or have any problem with her but this is fairly cut and dry in my perspective. I would love it if she were able to do what she wanted but messing around with other peoples livelyhood and money isn't for theraputic creative output and when her business failed and she signed that non-compete she lost the right to jump back into the game like nothing happened. Everybody has regrets and we would all like another shot but sometimes that doesn't happen.

This level of thread derailment makes me pretty happy.

As far as Devi Being back.

On a personal level I want her to have opportunities to be successful, I think people deserve second chances, I don't however think this means they deserve my money and or attention.

Mental illness is serious and it sucks, I see where Chuck is coming from that it is good to see someone who has crashed out pretty hard try to get things going again. From a business standpoint I would be pretty pissed if someone violated a non-compete, in any way.

Like most of these situations where someone has a big incident and then makes a comeback, they have the right to try and we have the right to place our money where we feel safe.

Hope the pedals are new and awesome (if it is even legal for her to make em)

From a legal standpoint, all the non-competes we have people sign won't even allow them to work in a related field, naming and licensing and such is separate.

I wonder if she made pedals as Effector 13 that weren't fuzzboxes or similar to what was made by DEFX if that would still fall under the non compete clause?

I will say, as a totally neutral party, that it seems drama follows Devi wherever she goes.

I will also say that apart from the whole Aescher ebow meltdown, this place is pretty quiet and drama free.

I will also say, as a neutral party of course, that Devi's response to this thread was pretty dramatic. "I was gonna answer questions, but then I saw that people had questions so LATER BONERS."

Considering ILF was probably the only demographic she might possibly have at this point, I think she may have already run this idea into the ground.

Louise, can I trade in my Devi God Zilla for a Dwarfcraft pedal?
